It's a catch 22.  The best days are Saturday thru Monday, but getting a room can be difficult.  Rooms do come more available after Monday because many teams have either finished running, broke or only wanted to take a few days off work.   After Wednesday many of the fast guys are finished and the number of cars go way down.  Hope this helped some.  Other will chime in soon.

I would have to agree, Saturday thru Monday and make sure to catch Salt Talks Sunday evening at the Bend.
If you've got a Ranchwagon then you've got a place to sleep.

See you there, Don

Which was the best girl you ever enjoyed? First one, second one.......

Did you ask someone first?

If you have never been to Speed Week it doesn't matter what day you go.

It all costs the same and you have nothing to compare it to.

The slowest day of the week will blow you away anyhow.

The best day is the first day you get there.

And don't taste the ground.  It really is salt.
Don't worry, everyone does it.....

Enjoy

I've never complained about the long line ups during the first few days. I've always explained that this is an opportunity to view some of the world's fastest vehicles and a chance to visit with friends. Where can you find another car show like this?

My story (again), Mr. Ranchwagon.  Our first visit to the salt was SpeedWeek '01.  We hired an RV and drove out to the salt each day (staying at the KoA in W. Wendover).  The best place I found to hang out (well, they're all good) was along the access road where the vehicles were in the pre-staging lines.  We didn't have to move to see 'em all.  They paraded slowly in front of us.  Slowly enough that I could get out of the RV and chat with this racer or that crew - and still not have to walk very far back to the rig.

The pre-stage is gone now, but lots of folks park and set up canopies and awnings along the access road leading to the start lines.  The vehicles are moving along at 10 - 20 mph so you won't have a chance (much) to talk with the folks, but you get to see just about everyone - and also get to see the fun of the racers coming off the line.

Yeah - plan to be there for the first few days.  Friday inspection is good -- you can see deep inside of any of the vehicles going through inspection.  The crew is usually a bit nervous at inspection, so if they don't welcome you with open arms - don't be put off.  Let 'em get through that -- then they'll be more friendly.  And by all means -- plan on going to Salt Talks Sunday evening at the Bend in the Road.  It's a huge picnic and gathering and hundreds of people - racers and tourists and everyone - will be there to see one another in person (instead of only online via this Forum).

8 hours per day, 20 vehicles per hour.....that gives u 3 minutes per vehicle for 3 days.

Total 480 cars.

With 500 entrees you won't see them all. I doesn't matter when u are there.

If u are watching the starting line you will lose on your total count because they don't run every 2 minutes.

Newbie question--- what time in the evening does the action shift from the salt to town for this car show, and Sunday night from the salt to the Bend for the party?

Ranchwagon....you got the message.

Just get there and enjoy your first time.

It matters not which day.

Way to accept reality.

We usually start Salt Talks about 6 in the evening, with folks wandering in for the next few hours.  Racing is usually ongoing at 6 - so many folks don't get to the party 'til 7 or even later.
