Securing a trailer/ and or classic or race car
« on: June 04, 2011, 08:10:10 PM »
What do you do to secure a trailer, and or classic/race car when transporting away from home? On my dads ol car we use the club. I know that some of you carry the classic 9MM, but that only works if you catch the thief. I have heard of running a ground wire to the cigarette lighter, or a toggle switch.

What about a car hauler?

TIA

Clay,

Do a search for Trailer Dog alarms. There are others available too, I think I have noticed one in the Speedway motors catalog.
There are many variable with options including cellular service to alert you if taken.
One option that works very well is the trailer wheel brakes. I didn't reset the alarm one morning while late and didn't make it out of the parking lot.

Good luck, John

I've got an alarm that is GPS tracked and uses the GSM cell phone network
Tracks the car, turn it off at will
Also, I find these are effective

With a trailer, keep it simple.

When you park, back it up against a light pole so they can't roll it off, leave the towing vehicle hooked up, and chain it through the wheel and around the spring.

Check your auto insurance policy - if you leave it all chained together and don't drop the trailer, they'll probably cover it in a worst case scenario.

Oh - remember to remove the chain before you take off in the morning.

Thats funny youmention not to drive off with out un-doing it first. I have a video of an old El mirage meet and I believe its Hayden Proffitt???? Any how he is in a Corvette, and they film him trying to get his car off the trailer, after a few attempts he figures out the Car is still attached to the trailer, kinda funny.

Good point though...

I used to remove the fuse for the fuel pump on my 2000 Ford diesel. If anyone tryed to start it, the starter would work, but the fuel pump would not work. They would probably crank on it and get scared and leave.

Along those lines I used to swap the coil wire with one of the plugs would sound like a not quite starting eng untill you ran the batt down

You could run a coil wire to under the drivers seat
But I don't think that's legal here either
