Maxton move ?
« on: May 27, 2011, 08:13:25 AM »
Anyone have any news on the Maxton deal ? Things have been so slow in the shop my car is still not done.....The best I can hope for now is maybe some testing in Sept & Oct, then what ? I'm really thinking I should sell out..and get back into nostalgia drag racing......

Jim,  don't sell out... Maxton may not be available to us 5 times a year in 2012,,,, but who knows...
"maybe" we may get 1 or 2 events in 2012,,, maybe none,, but never say we are gone forever... Things change and when the money drys up for training they are doing there,,, we "may" have a chance to get our track back.

We are all being nice and good in this 2011 transition year and when all is said and done we are good for the economy there..

Don't sell out.. hang in there... your LSR car can "also drag race" if need be.. just a rear gear change and some bigger slicks,,, I drag race my 33 Vicky LSR Car...it's fun, just over to soon..only 10 seconds,, 1/4 mile is okay but "The Mile" is what I like..

There is still Loring and with any luck perhaps there will be more than one event next year.

I going to finish and run the car, should fire off in a week....Not selling yet, but I just have bad feelings about Maxton ....I came out of racing retirement for this build and it's been tuff starting over.....Don't know wether to scratch my watch ,or wind my A$$......

Charles makes a good point many of these training programs are short lived.  I  am kinda in the same spot, started a car for Maxton with a hope of going to bonneville. Hoping at this point to get to Maxton for september. Did a google on Wilmington  50 miles more to drive than Maxton. BTW loring is 2400 miles one way.

The long tow is what will kill me. I got payed drag racing, not much, but it made the long hauls possible..Maine is a 24 hour pull, Texas is 21, Bonneville 2 days, Ohio 12, and Maxton 4......Several families allways go, we like to bring young kids, give them jobs to do and teach them.....The guys that race with me are some of the best. We make just about every thing. Our experience goes back way back, my friend Fred Bell raced with Al Thompson, "ALs Speed Shop" back when his injected Nitro cars were beating the blown Nitro cars....So losing Maxton may put an end to all this....Our plans now is try to make Sept a lic and tune day and maybe try and run a little Nitro in Oct. then see what happens.....Jim

How far would this Ohio event be (if it comes into play) from Maxton? Any ideas??? It may make it difficult for the Jack Scratch team to make it since I (the primary driver) is a NC school teacher who has difficuties getting Mondays and Fridays off for travel! Thanks for any input!

Maxton is a 2.5 hour drive for me,, Wilmington Air Park is 6 hours maybe max 0f 6.5..

Leave 6:30am Friday be parked, unloaded and ready for tech before 2:00 on Friday... Leave track by 2:30/3:00pm on Sunday be home by 9:30pm.... still 2 nights in a hotel just, only differance is leave a few hours early on Friday morning and arrive home a few hours later on Sunday night.

Count me in if that is our new location !!!

Wilmington is half the trip to Maxton for me. If that's where the ECTA ends up, I will show up more often. Gotta watch the travel expenses on a "retired" budget.
