Rick, be nice. The Turbinator don't have a prop and never will. And FR sure as heck won't get near it.

You naysayers clearly have a lack of vision. Lewis has found the missing key to achieving a wheel driven record OVER 600 mph. With this motor the TURBINATOR will have zero problem in going over 600 mph and very likely even MACH levels.
I would advise all of you to take careful note of the Lewiss' concepts and ideas; as he is a visionary and is without equal in the world of high speed vehicles.
My only regret was originally doubting the concepts....but with this revelation...this engine and figurative 'key' to the puzzle, I can now say all my initial qualms have vanished. We should ALL realize the greatness that we all have among us, and celebrate the honor and privilege of having him on this forum.

A mere 15,000 hp for the Kuznetsov NK-12. I think he should run two and go 1,200 miles per hour.

Oh, wait! The Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C!!!!!!!

109,000 hp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 36,000 miles per hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5,608,310 ft·lbf of torque @ 102 rpm

14 cylinders @ 1820 litres per cylinder

It only weighs 4,600,000 pounds.

Hi guys…
As usual nobody understood me. Sorry , I explain me bad….
My goal is to open a post  where, with the help, the knowledge , the land speed experience of all of us, we can delineate a theoretical layout for a hyperfast wheel-driven car. I have not experience in land-speed racing …only a basic engineering-automotive knowledge…
In 1903 the “Wright brothers flyer” made a short flight. In 1969 Armstrong walked on the moon.
In the ‘60s, a man called Art Arfons put an old F4 jet engine on 4 wheels and in few years run in the 600mph range. If someone like Richard Noble 45years ago would have  told Arfons: “why don’t we put a combined 100.000hp rocket-jet engine on wheels and run 1000mph?”…what would have you say? “ahhaha, crazy, impossible …”.  Well, today wheel driven record  is only 70mph faster than 1947 John Cobb record. The car-concept is the same of 70years ago: in relationship with the economic possibility of the builder, the modern streamliner is still a pumped Hemi engine (maybe 2 or 4 engines), a big transmission and the slickest shape possible. Donald Campbell in the ‘60s had the same chances to top 500mph of  Burkland  or Vesco today. Nothing is changed. The technological level is quite the same.
But now there are the technological  possibilities to make a real big record: maybe the first 1000km/h wheel driven, or the first 700mph ore even the first Mach 1.
But we need someone that try to make a step forward.
So if anyone have a concrete idea to realize a hyperfast-liner , write on post!.Maybe  another member could reply with his opinion or try to solve some problems…In the end we could have a basic layout.. And probably in the future someone with the right budget could build such liner.
The Kuznetsov turboshaft was only a stupid example: I know that try to find such engine is practicly impossible. But someone could response: “In US however could be possible find some old powerful aircraft turboshafts  (like Arfons made with j79)a little bigger than turbinator one, but very powerful…and another member could post an idea to solve the transmission or fuel problem, another one aero etc…
In my misery and stupid opinion the way to top such speed is to use a superpower unit (turboshaft, multiple engine,NHRA engine..)…and than... than work  on the traction problems.
What is Bonneville or a salt lake? Trying to go faster as possible.
What is the real LAND speed? Wheel driven.
Which LAND speed human could achieve?
Let’s try.
That’s all
Bye
Ps: I know RTA-96C....Find me a system to fit it into a streamliner and could be a good Idea!!! 

Trent, Lewis is Italian. I believe he posted that he is from Forli.

While I admit, Lewis's ideas seem a little ambitious to me, I love the concept. From what I remember of history class, the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, and many other visionaries, were also scoffed at. Hell, people once thought the earth was flat!

Lewis didn't day he was going to build the car, only "My goal is to open a post  where, with the help, the knowledge , the land speed experience of all of us, we can delineate a theoretical layout for a hyperfast wheel-driven car."

So Lewis, all I can say is keep dreaming! Will you ever see your dreams to fruition? Who knows.

...But maybe, just maybe, you will ask enough questions, and can solve one or two of the obstacles that makes a 600+ mph run difficult.  Someone may pick up the torch that is your dream, and run the gauntlet with it. cheers

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925
