Jim Zupan dies of ALS.

Jim is an unknown to the bulk of Bonneville Salt Flats racers but everyone who has made a pass down the salt owes him.  Jim built and quietly donated the majority of the drags used on the salt in the last 25 years.  Perhaps as important as building them, he delivered them to the salt flats, often by his lonesome.  Can you imagine getting that weight and awkward bulk from the Salt Lake Valley to a spot around the dike?  This was his quiet contribution to all the racers.  With his son Chad driving their #1727, CJS Racing G/FMR, they were a familiar sight on the salt.  As noted in his obituary, Jim died of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Jim was a long time member of the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association.  His quiet smile and willingness to help on many projects is going to be missed.  We extend our love and appreciation to his family.

Jim Zupan was one of the many racers that made it possible for us to run on the Salt - these people don't need to grab the microphone and shout "Look at Me" they just get the job done. We are very lucky to have had Jim involved in our sport - Best wishes to his family - Pat Kinne - B'ville 200 MPH Club

-here's pictures of Jim's 2nd roadster before and after it was painted purple, and Jim's 1st car about 2000 when it was painted green with Jim and Chad.

Say hello to my dad, Bert Munro, Muff Bentley, Nolan White and all the rest of them.... you'll probably recognize the group who have 2 club patches on their wings.... look down from time to time and smile on us will you?...
