11 lb. min. fire bottle rule.
« on: May 03, 2011, 08:03:27 AM »
In a class that exceeds 201mph the fire bottle rule reads 11 lb. min. with any additional protection over 10 lbs. to be in the driver area. I was only confused because most fire bottles are 5 lbs. or more so my question; Over 200mph do you add another 5lb. bottle (15lbs. total) or are there other solutions such as a 1, 2 or 2-1/2 lb. Halon bottle available for the cockpit in addition to the 5lb. already specified? I have two bottles in place now a 5lb. for the engine and a 5lb. for the driver.

Generally that is solved with 15 lbs.  In the lakester we have a 5 for the driver and a 10 that is split, a driver nozzle and engine nozzles.  In the liner there are 3 fives, driver, engine, both.

Added note... Small compartments only need 1 nozzle in the drivers area... if you use one of the standard 3 nozzle ends you will have too much agent released too fast.  Think about the air space in the vehicle when you are in there... that is the area that you want to fill.  Both nozzles in the drivers area of little car have been modified to have a single slow release.

FIREFOX offers 2.5. 5.0,6.3,8.3 and 10 lb bottles in FE36 ( replacement for Halon)  or Gem Foam. Both systems have a bladder for 100 % delivery of the agent, not a dilute mixture of agent and nitrogen.

I would use the Gem Foam. I have sold hundreds of systems, only two or three were gas. Foam also cools. The bladder allows the mounting of the bottle in ANY position and you get all the agent you paid for.

Thank's for the help looks like the best answer for me is to replace a 5lb. with a 10lb. split. Anyone need a 5lb. bottle with March 2011 cert. date?
