Cheap and tires are two things that should not be used in the same sentence.  I run azenis tires, the steel belt runs around the side wall and is extra stiff, hard as a rock, low rolling resistance, really good stability, and is either z or w? rated, whatever higher than z is... The tread compound is pretty grippy because its an import Road race tire with normal tread.  Mine are 22" tall on a 15X7

I use BFG G Force Sports (extreme performance summer) Z Rated Tires

Fronts

195/55/15  are 23.4 tall and fit on  15x7 wheel quite well
195/50/15 are 22.7 tall....

Rear I have used 205/60/15  24.7 tall,,,,8.2 sec width///7.4 tread width
on 7" rim..

great tires and good price.

I  have run the BFG  G Force in open road racing. I have held the tires above 145 for 118 miles and even under hard corners and moderate braking they have held up well. I did BBORR in 2008 and 2009 on the same set. I was very happy with them. I ran the same set at the world of speed in the 130/150 class and they had good manners

Goodyear makes a new 300 mph 10'' tire, and there a lot less than the 300 mph frontrunners. They also make 10'' road race tires that we have used at El Mirage.

                     JL222

Although I race at the salt, I have delusions of doing this on pavement sometime- somewhere..... perhaps Mojave.... These 10" tires are interesting.... the specs seem to indicate that they are similar to, if not the same as, the inside fronts from NASCAR G/N cars....

For a number of years, we ran Goodyear Talladega inside fronts on our Vega and went over 240 mph with them. I think you are over in NASCAR country .... you may be able to find lots of usable used tires for a good price..... the dimensions that we had were 800/820 X 28 - 15 and there were also wider ones ....

All of the Talladega tires were okayed for 300 mph at Bonneville .... and I know a few of them went faster with no problems that I ever heard of.

Happy hunting and good luck!

V, Z and W  all are allowed the same speed limits... up to 225 mph at Maxton and Loring oer 2011 Rule Book.

See you this weekend Jim,,, bring the car and run it thru tech (even if it is not race ready, it helps to have an inspector do a once over when the tech line is empty).

Firestone made a Firehawk 15" V  rated Police Car tire which is27.5 dia. Don't know if it is still available as police cars with 15" tires are getting old.
