Clarification and Retraction regarding the Speed Shootout
« on: April 28, 2011, 09:48:37 AM »
Hello All,
Tim from the Speed Shootout here.  I would like to inform everyone that the Speed Shootout, held in northern Maine on our two 14,200' and one 10,200' runways is in no way affiliated with and in no way wishes gain credibility by the use of the name of any racing events held in other states that have 1 mile tracks.  Any reference to any event that shall not be named was made only to illustrate the format that shall be used for timing and rules at the Speed Shootout.

We do maintain contact with other event organizers to help maintain the integrity of our similar, yet wholly severed, forms of racing. But please keep cognizant that any direct connection, expressed or implied, does not exist, nor does either party have the resolute desire for such a connection to exist at the present time or at any time in the forseeable future, (barring the earth being absorbed into a black hole in which case we will all be connected). Of coarse, these arrangements are subject to change without prior written or verbal advisement to our racers, sponsors, vendors, or families.

Also, please be advised that the Speed Shootout can in no way be held responsible for the mention of, reference to, or discussion of any racing events held in other states that have 1 mile tracks that draw comparisons to the Speed Shootout by any racers, pundits, media, or other outside individuals.

I hope that covers that.

Lets all be safe out there at Bonneville, Loring, El Mirage, frozen Swedish lakes, Australian salt,  or any racing events held in other states that have 1 mile tracks that shall not be named.
:-D    :-D

Apparently this retraction has gone viral.  Since it's posting I have already received one message for further clarification.

Yes, the Speed Shootout is still planned for September 16-18.

No, no longer making reference to racing events in other states that use 1 mile tracks that shall not be named will not be catastrophic to our ability to attract racers to the venue (we hope).  Contingency plans to address the potential loss of reference to racing events that take place in other states that use 1 mile tracks that shall not be named have been in place for seconds, if not minutes and seem to be stemming the exodus of interested parties.

Correct, there really is no comparison between our two 2.68 and one 1.8 mile tracks and racing events in other states that use 1 mile tracks that shall not be named.

Yes, it may be easy for some to confuse the largest nuclear weapons facility in the world, buried in a remote corner forests of Maine and the model for the base used in Dr. Strangelove with other public and private airstrip on varying longitudes and latitudes from Ohio to pacific that have racing events that take place in other states that use 1 mile tracks that shall not be named.

Please rest assured, we ARE planning to have our event.  With or without the publicity or credibility that reference to racing events in other states that use 1 mile tracks that shall not be named would have provided us.
