As you know SFI 38.1 (e.g., HANS) is a “system”. It is not a single item, but a collection of parts working together for your safety. Change any part in the system and you become a test pilot.
The new rule book
3.A.2 Driver’s Helmet says” . . . upgrade to the now available Snell SA2010(FIA 8860-2010), Snell SAH2010 or FIA 8860-2010 standard helmets if making a new purchase. The Snell rating label change date from 2005 to 2010 will occur in 2016.So not a big deal because of the very reasonable time frame. However, if you are making a purchase to meet SFI 38.1 it might be important for you to read the first two paragraphs here:
http://www.smf.org/standards/sa/SA2010/SA2010FHR7-22-10.pdfYou can see that only SA
H2010 insures you meet the total system requirements. If you buy, or bought, a SA2010 helmet be careful how you upgrade to the “H” level. This is a subtlety you will not find anywhere except at SNELL.
