It took a lot longer than I expected but the 2100 is wired up and running again. New RacePak dash replaces the gauges. Switches and fire pulls relocated. Added a third fire bottle.  Now working on the the spoiler changing it from design one to the alternate design. Some work on the hood scoop to seal the carberators. Build a couple of 9" ford center sections. Change a few tires on the rig, a shopping trip for tarps and misc. pit supplis and we are ready to head west.

Well the spoiler is done. The deck was easy the side panels without an English wheel were hard. So in a "Monster Garage" kind of way I rolled them on a small fire bottle to get the two curves. I will definitely redo them over the winter.
Now all that is left this weekend is to install the 3:50 gear for my initial and short course runs. Seal the hood scoop and a good clean up.
Next inventory and pack the trailer.

Bill, I think the secret of becoming a "regular" Bonneville racer is making the inventory check in your head -- while on the way out to the salt (from home, of course).  You'll think of stuff that didn't strike you as needed.  And you'll discover lots more stuff that you should have/could have taken once you're done with the racing for the week.  At least then it's easy -- that's when (on the way home) we DO make a list of stuff for next time.  Just don't do like me -- and lose said list before packing the rig the a return to Bonneville.

Jon -- busy trying to get the pit bike running.  It ran just fine a few months ago when taken out of winter storage.  Now what's the problem?

Jon:
Well said, I blame most of my shortcomings on my missing lists! I know our first will be an eye opener. I hope to bring more things to lend than I need to barrow. That to me would be a great first trip. And returning with all the rods still in the block would be nice too.

It's seems the only pit vehicles we can use are our rentals and push trucks. I take it no golf carts or scooters.

Golf carts and scooters ARE ALLOWED - no questions.  The restriction is mostly because of the difficulty in seeing a low-to-the-ground go kart or such.  We ride our Honda Elite (80 cc) pit bike all the time, and no less than JoAnn Carlson (SCTA secretary and the REAL boss of the organisation) rides in her golf cart.

The speed limit in the pits is posted as 5 mph.  While you won't be tested with a radar gun or something -- the idea is to go very slowly.  Race vehicles being moved are pretty much slow targets that don't steer well and therefore can't get out of your way.  The pits are loaded with pedestrians.  If you need to get someplace faster -- use one of the three or four pit access exits to the frontage road - where you're allowed up to about 25 MPH.

Slow and careful is the by-word, got it?

No Mini bikes, go carts or low profile vehicles of any kind. crew  vehicles require a crew pass. a tall flag on the pit rides is a big help for visibility. No riding in the back of pick ups or on trailers.

Thanks for the well wishes. I think we are going with some good guys and several friends are meeting us to help. A couple I have never met face to face. Land Racing is a great community of racers, builders and fans. It will be good to step on the salt for the first time.

thanks again,

I will post in the evenings.

Yes, we did. The truck is at the volvo shop in Nashville . Did not se to be anything mechanical. Error code says it is a shifter solenoid. Maybe that is not too bad. We will see .
