Charles and Kix, I agree...I want to haul A$$.

It was crazy busy today and not much time to think about LSR.

Charles, I need a trans but don't want to be limited to a push start. Only because we cannot carry a truck in the hauler. I have some thinking to do becuase Kix sent me an email with a list of question I need to answer prior to determining the gear ratio. I sent it to Matt to look at. Once we figure out some of the variables Kix brought to our attention we will be ready to decide on gear sets.
Kix what type of fly wheel/clutch do you run? Can I move the shifter back on the case? I sit pretty far back and the current shifter has a right angle which make gear selection harder to feel.
Charles has a trick dual disc, flywheel set up for his E motor.
Charles I want to convert to the T101A, not sure which fly wheel and clutch set up I need.
We have a new PST Carbon Drive Shaft I can have cut and fitted with the right slip yoke.

What do you guys think?

Bill,  I use a light weight duel disk on the E motor for a reason that you will not encounter,,, your D motor has more low end Torque,,,, You will not need a push with this type of clutch but it will last longer if you do push start.

Also with the Tex T10 or Tex T101A  you can use a regular clutch and flywheel you do not have to use the duel set up like I have.

You can also choose gear sets to give you a low first for take off and then have a closer 3 and 4 for less rpm loss on those critical taller shifts.

thanks, Charles. I will call you when I have a note pad to write down what I need. It is just crazy at the dealership when I get back to town. It takes a few days to get everything back to a normal schedule. Talk to you soon.

We use a use a multiplate clutch Bill. You can put the shifter just about anywhere as long as you can make the linkage work. It is all on the outside of the box so if you mount the shifter farther back you would need to build longer shift rods. We are even thinking about a taller first gear for the mile events because the RPM drop from 1st to 2nd drops all the way to 6500 from 9200. The truck comes off the push truck pretty hard with our current 1st gear so I think a taller 1st may get us some mph in the mile.

Charles, do you have sets of gears available for the T101A?  Most of the people selling them on ebay have no idea what gears or what trans they fit, and G-force gets about $400/set for the gears.  I want to try a taller first, but not for $480!!!

Charles:

I am all over the board on this tranny. I have talked to liberty and several others...was trying to avoid a lot of fabrication but it looks like I am not going to be able to avoid it. Matt just got a SuperFlow Dyno for his dyno room so we now plan to pull my motor and dyno it to learn where the power band is and some tune-up results. I would like to know that before I go an order a transmission so I know what gear sets to order. It does not look like that will work beause of time...unless I skip June Maxton and Loring and go straight to Bonneville. If I just did'nt have this damn pesky day job I could get all of this stuff done...but then I would have time and no money.  No easy answers.

Bill,

I have confirmed that there are Tex101A transmissions available through my NASCAR contact... they are working up a price... and they have gearsets a plenty, so we should be able to get it set up any way you wanted.  Liberty is a bold move, perhaps a little overkill in my humble opinion... but certainly rock solid!

One other thought I would offer.... if the car is running good and you can line out the trans problem you are having quickly - shifts are not as important for speed at Bonneville like they are at Maxton... just a thought.

On the Tex:  I am going to post a couple of videos on the thread about the last race: on the "in car" video I am lazy shifting the trans at only 8,000rpm on our first shakedown run, but listen to the shifts in the "rear cam" video from a full out 9300rpm shifted pass... the shifts on the 101A are effortless and stupid fast.  Just my two cents...

Kix, those are clean shifts. Great talking to you. Lets talk on Tuesday.

Here is a bumper cam shot, I run a lot farther to the left. If I straddle the white line my wheels tend to unload. It happened in Dennis's truck last October too. Now I ride way to the left and the 3/4 mark bump is no where near as bad. The car has a D ring welded to the center member. The zip tie came loos and that is what you hear rattleing. Sounds like a bucket of bolts coasting.

Bill,

I am with Kix the Liberty is way over kill for what we do and how we do it.

The Tex 101A  is your very best bet.. and set up ready to go is under $3,000 with Billet Shifter.

Why pull the motor and Dyno?  The Motor is doing well,,, only the trans is hurting you a bit at Maxton,, at Loring and Bonneville the lazy or clunky shifts will not have as dramatic effect as they do at Maxton...

I understand missing Maxton in June to get new trans and shifter in,,, but don't miss Loring.. that 1.5 miles will give you good data for high gear pulls...

Get a Tex and get your butt to Loring in July.

Charles, thanks you are always so helpful. I bought a Tex 101A today. Playing with some ratios and gears this weekend and will call the guy to tell him how to set it up on Monday.

We are fabing up the new switch mounts, chute handle now. I am also going to reinforce the cage in a few areas and add some gussets.

Ok, I now have a TEX 101A for the 2100...thanks Kix! The seller, Doug, is a great guy and will basically set it up any way I would like. Now the question is what gear sets do I start with? and how much gear will the little 302 pull with a 28" tire? The spread sheet says with a 1:1 4th @ 7,900 rpm, i will need around a 3:00  or taller to have an opportunity to run the number needed to qualify for a record run at Bonneville. Currently the transmission has a 2.18 1st, 1.65 2nd, 1.38 3rd and 1:1. Any thoughts?
