Charles, I priced those Winters rear ends at Speedway...they are a little rich for my needs.

Why not try somewhere like Racingjunk.com? There are other sale and auction sites.

Bill, I'm contemplating pulling the quick change from my firebird to switch to a fab-9 that would handle 2khp. It's set up with a built in cooler/filter pump and I just have an oberg filter on it right now. Also I have truck arms on my car but you can change it to leaf springs or whatever. Something to think about...

Just something you might want to consider ( I am doing it on my friends Firebird) is to build a quick change to the back of the transmission.  If you use sprint car gears you can change in 1.5% increments and dial in your transmission to the power band.  Tony

Tony, interesting idea. Do you have any photos...not sure of how to set up a quick change set on a trans.

Charles, also, I have this TEX 101A but since I am not going to do any one mile events and just Bonneville I am thinking of using another 5-speed. I have not totally made up my mind. Also I called you on Sat. your spoiler, I am thinking about changing mine to your style. The wrap around that I built is not what I want. Would like to build some adjustment to it. Keith told me to run 14 degrees but mine was set at zero when I built it. I had no handling problems but I just don't like the look. I had to rush it to make the August date.

Bill, I don't have any pictures but its the same principle as a "V" drive. Depending on the transmission you are using, you can replace the tail cone and fabricate the unit to fit there.  I am currently working on one to fit the back of a Liberty 5 speed and as soon as I have enough to show,  I will post some pictures.  Tony

QC on the trans has been done before.  Back in the day when I crewed for Esslinger in the MT Stadium series, one of my tasks was the gear changes.  For the life of me I can't remember how it was done on the back of the Art Carr C4, but it sure was there in lieu of the tail shaft and housing, and pretty easy changes at that.  Back then I was skinny enough to slide under the truck with no jacking.
(Of course stadium trucks did sit pretty high).

Boy, am I grateful for good memory...........

Bill...it was great working with you at SW.  I hope to get shots of the car at speed next year...high speed!

I feel yer pain on the driveshaft issue.  Mine let go at 137 at World of Speed...along with the pinion yoke.  Not quite as dramatic as yours, but it still twisted a Denny's "unbreakable, untwistable" piece.  I need to get it boxed up and sent back to 'em.  I also have holes in the floor pans; fortunately not in the transmission tunnel cuz when the shaft was flailing around it broke the slip joint and apparently that prevented the transmission from joining the other parts in the "Offerings to the Gods of Speed" pile...and the holes are just about the size of the u-joint caps.  One of the things I'll be doing over the winter is installing a rear driveshaft loop to prevent the shaft from beating on everything under the car just in case it should happen again.

My tow vehicle (my 95 Burb) also rolled over and died, but that was in the middle of "Lake Bonneville" at what would have been World Finals.  Turns out that the reluctor pickup coil picked that time to open up, possibly in an attempt to redefine Suburban as Submarine (thanks to Land's End Lynda for that alliteration.)  Photos from that event are here (I just got 'em on the server yesterday: 10/11/11): http://www.chevyasylum.com/lsr/bsf2011/05-wf/Welcome.html  I added a caption to almost every photo to explain the goings on.

So now I'm looking for a Buick Grand National or Turbo Regal 8.5" rear end to replace the 7.5" that's still under the car.  I'd love to do a manual transmission swap, but I've got a buncha money in the TH200-4R and my racing budget was nuked by everything from May thru September.  The WoS photos are here: http://www.chevyasylum.com/lsr/bsf2011/03-wos/pix/Welcome.html

Here are a coupla pix of my carnage.

What's this?  No credits to the photographer on the three shots I took?
