That is good to know... I had always heard people used DOM in LSR cars...

LTA, ECTA, and SCTA do not have defined classes for jet cars.  I don't want to imply that the LTA won't want you to run. (I can't speak for them) but I would guess there is more involved than just having the right tubing, fire system, etc.

The rule book will help but might not give you all the answers you need since you have a jet car.

I don't have my ECTA rule book with me (about 99% identical to LTA rules) but as I look at the 2010 SCTA cage rules (might be the same as ECTA and LTA) the roll cage requirements for chrome moly are at least 1-5/8 inch round tubing with .095 wall.   If not chrome moly it is 1-5/8 inch round steel tubing with 120 wall.

I suspect you need to have a good conversation with LTA to be sure all the bases are covered before you run that monster for 1 and 1/2 miles.   Best of luck . . .

Yeah... SFI-20 Suit, Boots, Gloves, Arm Restraints, HANS, 3/8" enclosure from engine, Dual Chutes, Three Fuel shut offs, SFI 10.1E Cage, two brake pedals.. etc.

The two biggest problems will be running out of fuel, and timing the afterburner... The engine will push it faster than I want to go... I know there are a few guys knocking on the 400mph door at air shows with less distance... I just want 300... lol.

I am not sure but feel ECTA and LTA  are for "wheel driven" cars...not sure how this Jet Funny Car works, but I expect if the LTA allowed it to run it would be for exhibition or Time Only,, it also creates a situation at the line as we stage in two lines directly behind where the hot thrust would be from the Jet... So maybe it would be Lunch Time entertainment for us ?

I would like to see a Jet car make a 1.5 mile run,,, that would be COOL.

Exhibition is cool with me... That is what we do at the drags too, as there is no real class for Jet Cars... Jets run with similar conditions to the LSR stuff, but with no speed traps.

It would be more for my own self satisfaction of having a slip that said over 300 miles per hour.

If it works out, it would certainly be cool.

I saw the "jet" car run at Texas Mile, 275, then 324mph.

But it wasn't like i thought it would be.

275mph: he just ambled down the track to the 3/4mi marker the hit the afterburner
324mph: he just ambled down the track to just before the 3/4mi marker the hit the afterburner

But even tho the show wasn't what i expected, it was an awesome machine, very cool indeed. :cheers:

We are very fuel limited with these cars... We are only allowed to run 30 gallon tanks, and the afterburner burns thru 2 gallons per second.

A jet car with the afterburner lit for a full mile would be too much... No one in their right mind would want to do it... lol.
