ELMO HISTORY?
« on: March 25, 2011, 11:20:18 AM »
Hi, I've got a good idea when it was first ran and when the SCTA was organized but I heard there were some long breaks in the racing on the lakebed over the years. When and why?

The only breaks were during WW II. There have been slow years but no shut downs.

Faded, I think you are wrong, I have results and other club stuff from the lakes and Bonneville. Contact Jim Miller or Jack Underwood as they probably have 99% of the lakes results for every year.

I heard it was the year's fifth meet before you realized you had last year's calendar.

And last years calendar had just come out ( from the same printers that do the rulebook).

I remember meets in the late 70's with 50-60 entries. A lot of us ran our pickups and family sedans. I 1984 I fought it out with my son; his 76 Chevelle against in moms 73 Monte Carlo. He ran 109 and I ran 110. Both 4 barrel 350's.

As I remember it Bob Higbee's VW square back followed Warren Bullis's van down the course to complete the day....and Warren didn't empty the van either.
