250cc Pushrod Tiger Cub
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:04:17 PM »
I am building a 200cc Tiger Cub motor to run in a stock frame with Bultaco forks and tree; an extended swingarm; custom seat and tank; lowered handlebars and footpegs with controls set 6" in front of the rear axle.  The motor has a modified intake port (less angle) and the carb will likely be a Kiehin for gas.  Exhaust is a standard header with mega.

I think this puts me in the M-PG class but would like to hear from the experts.  This will be my first riding experience at the BUB Bonneville trials. At my age its about time I did something!

Now working on the seat - rear fender - number plate................If my number plates are part of the seat and fender, and I stay above the horizontal line of the axle and do not extend beyond the tire, will I be OK...........something in the rules about the rim being visible below the seatpan???  Wishing to comply with M-modified chasis

I think the rule says your number plate has to be above the wheel not the axle?  I could be wrong however.

On your swingarm. Are you modifying a stock swingarm or using an aftermarket swingarm? I asked about this a couple years ago and you have to use a stock swingarm. If you go aftermarket you could be put in A if anybody knows what a stock one is supposed to look like...

I used two originals to make one. I retained the original shock mount studs but have added a strength rib with alternative shock-stud holes.  The Tom Mellor Trident bike was allowed to run with an extended swingarm and very streamlined seat-tail-number plate combo, and holds the 750cc M-PG record. My Tiger Cub chasis will be less modified...........and very much slower. A change from my original post involves ditching the Bultaco front forks in favor of a more triangular triple-tree and shorter tubes.........just have not found the best combo at the local wrecking yard.

Still looking for guidance on the seat/tail section..............I plan to end the tail a few inches short of the vertical line of the rear edge of the tire.........the sides (number plates) would curve downward toward the axle but extend no lower than the bottom of the shock springs.  One part of the rules says the tail section cannot extend below the top of the rim.......???
