There always seams to be a gang of newer model Triumphs lined up waiting for a pass on the "Run Whatcha Brung" course at BUB`s,, what speeds are the boys getting from these street bikes, Bonnevilles, Daytona`s, Speed Tripples etc :?

Back in the late 1990's early 2000's Mike Corbin (Corbin seats) ran one of the "new" Triumph triple with Chance Darling as rider.....the bike ran just over 200mph. on the salt.....the interesting thing about the bike was that it used a "golf ball" type of fairing................................................................
Bike has been sold......fairing is hanging up off the ceiling....may try it on our sidecar.........
Mike made the body for our 1990 sidecar liner that is now in the Barber Museum.......

Talking "early" Triumph......for sale; Pre-unit 750c.c. (Chatland Kit) complete ready to ride bike (will send you pictures)   Pm me....% of the dollars going to Landracing.com.......................
Question authority.....always

The best data sources for BUB are Scooter Grubb's book showing what the Triumphs look like and their numbers, and the run logs and results listed on the 2010 BUB Speed Trials website that give the rest.  It would take an evening to assemble the information.  Matt Capri is the only person I know who knows the outer limits of what a modern Triumph engine can do.

I believe the current record in the 250cc Modified Pushrod / Gasoline class is held by a Triumph at 79.33 mph.  I hope to bring a Triumph T20 to BUB-2011 and up the record. I was tagging along with Tom Moeller in '09 and got the idea that if I was to return to the salt, I might just as well have something to ride.

I think that Bob Leppan had a streamliner in 1967 called the Gyronaut X1.... he went 245+ MPH.... I am pretty sure it was a 750cc though, which in those days was probably a Sonny Routt big bore kit. It was actually, for a number of years the unlimited motorcycle record holder....

In 1970, Don Vesco, with his 'liner, eclipsed Bob' record by about 6 mph and became the unlimited motorcycle land speed record holder..... for about 6 weeks.... and then Cal Rayborn went 265+ mph to claim that distinction.

An article on the Joe Dudek 650cc Bonneville powered streamliner piloted by Bill Johnson is in the latest (for us in the US) Classic Bike Guide.  This is the January 2011 issue of the British magazine.

Bob Leppan still has the Gyronaut streamliner. He was in the process of restoring it last time I talked to him.  Which was a couple of years ago.
Sam's little yellow Norton was one neat bike to restore. Where did the museum put it? Hope it is front and center.

Sam's yellow Norton.... from 1971?..... didn't it morph into Al Teague's car streamliner?.... now I know that it didn't really but....

I was told Al Teaque's car streamliner started life from one of Denis Manning's  Gulf Norton streamliner bodies. We are getting real close on firing up the Gulf Norton bike, The fuel pump and injection system should be back in house this week. About a month out on hearing it run. photos here.   http://bigdcycle.com/blog/?p=1021

That is not front and center for Sam's bike. That does not make me happy. Best part about restoring Sam's bike was getting to meet and work with Sam. What a truly smart and nice guy. Not mention one hell of as rider to get in that bike and go 200.

Bill Gately at Bonneville Performance has been running a bored and stroked 1250cc Hinkley twin since 2005 in his flattrack bike.  He also builds his onw frames.  I am lucky enough to be crewing for him at four races this year.  And, you bet that I'll be picking his brain for the tips of the week!  Hopefully I can turn that into a usable combo for LSR.
