Blown Fuel Modified Sport or PRO Class
« on: January 15, 2011, 04:10:34 PM »
Another rule question fellas...sorry for all of them.   :?   I do have a 2010 rule book, and have read it multiple times, but am still a bit fuzzy.

If I run a 1990 Firebird within the  Production Class rules, and then add air vents (louvers somewhere), it looks like I'd be in modified sport?  Please clarify if this is ok?  But am I allowed to run a non stock turbo/supercharger and compete in the BFMS  class with a SBC 383 B motor?

Or if I don't use air vents are superchargers allowed in PRO class?

Thank you.  Matt

One other question...if I run the same firebird, but an 89, a stock supercharger on a SBC vs. the 6cyl. that was originally offered with a turbo, can I run in PS?  Trying to find a home for my B motor and firebird.  :)

I'm with you guys, and that's what I originally thought, but Nissan Zs and RX7s both have rear seats.  AND it doesn't say that in the rules.  The rules just say that the class is for sports cars modified beyond Production rules.  It seems this class fits between Production and Altered or Gas Coupe

Im pretty sure modified sports classes are for two seaters only.

   I agree.

I tried MS for my '91 Camaro in the ECTA - no dice. those sports cars w/"rear seat", the seats are not designed to continuous occupancy and high speed touring. Apparently the Bird and Camaro rear seats are comfy to the masses. :|

Regarding the PS question, look up John Rains. Good luck.

Matt from what you described, (1990 Fire Bird with a SBC 383ci; with turbo or supercharger) would be in the B/BGC class for racing under SCTA rules. Sounds like Gas Coupe (engine swap; non-stock supercharger) to me!! Dave

No engine swap...Firebird has SBCs available.

Forget about Modified Sports, class is for modified sports cars (two seaters) that are no longer production qualified (GT class).

Hi Matt, lets try it again, now with more information! If you use your 89 Firebird with SBC (if 500 cars came that way) and you use a non-stock supercharger, then you would be a B/BGC (because of the non-stock supercharger) or if you use the 89 Firebird with a V6 with a stock turbo then it would be E/PS like John Rains 297mph 89 Pontiac Indy 500 special with a Buick V6 with a stock turbo.  John used the Pontiac with the Buick V6 with 40+ lbs boost for around 1200+hp for a top speed of 297mph and he is still trying for 300mph, his car is the most impressive car I've ever watched race!!! He also bored the engine from "E" size to "D" for more records in Production Supercharged.  I raced my 1963 Avanti against him 7 years ago (my car was D/PS) and when my car was going 198 mph his car was going 276 mph at the time, so I knew my less aerodynamic car with an old Studebaker engine would never be competitive to John Rains more modern aero and more hp car, so I started the new racing class with SCTA called "Classic" now I can be competitive with the less aerodynamic muscle cars from 1928 to 1981. Good luck, Dave

Dave, thanks so much for clarifying things for me.  I consider myself fairly competent, but reading the rules, and trying to decipher what is what and where what goes when and how will make you crazy.  :)
