Aerodynamics seminar, interested?
« on: December 15, 2010, 09:28:46 PM »
For the last 5 years I have been trying to get a group of people together to put on a seminar on aerodynamics.
One of the racers I worked with attended one of these and really learned about how to make his MG Midget cleaner (aerodynamically). It went faster in a straight line but still wouldn't turn to save its life.

Paul T. Glessner is world renowned and this is his gig.

If there is enough interest, we can approach Paul and schedule.
He had listed on his website the golf course in Pacoima as a location.

Not a solicitation, looking for like minded people who might like to attend.

Thanks, John

Am a Glessner seminar grad (along with - not at the same time - Jay Leno, but I did take it alongside a record holder of two El Mirage records - ones he set after the seminar) and he really gives a great overall description of aerodynamic phenomena.  Katz book is included with the seminar and he basically follows it.

Yrs truly would like to see one presented more specific to landspeed stuff - if enough interest could be shown and his arm could be twisted.

If it was only about LSR related info I would be very interested. I really don't want to learn about tunnels, wings or an type of down force generating configuration. We have gravity.

PS: It would be nice if it was on the "left" coast also.

The one I attended had very little of LSR value. Mostly about wings and down force but then there were a bunch of sporty car types in attendance.  It can raise one awareness.  This was several years ago.

Um, OK my bad, Pacoima, California, Left coast to those directionally challenged.

When last I spoke to Paul, he had mentioned that he could tailor the course to a specific direction or could let the seminar drift to a purpose.

I will approach Paul again this Holiday season if enough folks show interest.

Rex, I seem to remember someone asking about tunnel design and bottom configuration for streamliners lately.

Maybe try to schedule it in Seattle, and I could go!

Other wise maybe after a meet at El Mirage or Mojave.

Cheers!
