Phil Smith has passed on - -

Here's the note I got from Amanda, the Gear Grinder's secretary, just a few minutes ago, even though I see it's dated a few days ago:

12/09/10:  Phil Smith passed away this morning (Wed Dec 6). He was a member of the Gear Grinders, member of the El Mirage 200mph Club and the first member of the MUROC 200mph Club. He ran Lakester, #92 and sometimes #3. His wife Jackie plans on holding a memorial service for Phil after the holidays. More details to follow.  From long time friend, David Willis

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I worked with Phil some years ago on his C/F engines for the blue lakester. He was a really nice guy and good to work with. I remember things wern't going that well with the engine and he didn't even take a contract out on me. Sorry to hear this news , another one of the good ones pass's on.
