GT sport and rear seats
« on: November 27, 2010, 07:47:46 PM »
In the GT class under the production category the statement is made "This category does not include cars with rear seats for suitable for continued adult occupancy". Could someone clairify what "siutable for continued occupancy" means. For example, Amy And me are considering running our new car this coming season, a '91 Camaro,in the GT class. As most everone knows that the "rear seat" in a '82 to '92 Camaro is not "suitable for continued ADULT occupancy. As I have had the discomfort of trying to get in and out of the rear seat I have come to the conclusion that it is suitable for hualing a couple of 12 paks of Icehouse and one of your favorite kids. :? :?

Well, I'm 6'5", and I've managed to pull off a couple of "adult" type activities in the back of a Camaro.

I think that you'll find that the intention of the rule is to build a class for traditional 2 seat sports cars.  That's how SCTA looks at it.

Would that be with the back seats folded down. And 3 and 1/2 min. dos not constitute " continued" occupancy. :-D :-D :-D

Just kidding, I understand that concept and if that is the case here then reword the phrase to read something like "no rear seat" or " no useable rear seat".

SCTA's definition is even funnier - "comfortable high speed touring" -

I'm shopping for a quick release hub. :-D

Camaro/Firebird won't work for GT. It would be in Production/Coupe/Altered/etc. but not any of the GT classes

Other than the "seat" thing can you tell me why it wouldn't fit GT? Thats why I started this thing. the driver aka the missus and I have been from one end to the other of the '10 ECTA rule book tying to figure out what classes we could attack with the "new" car. While waiting for the new book I need to get to build'n. Thanks for all of the input.

Can't speak to ECTA rules, but I will say this - I wouldn't lift a wrench without a rulebook, and a thorough understanding of it.

The SCCA rulebook was very clear (40 years ago):
Sports cars do not have back seats of any kind.
Sedans have "normal" back seats (i.e. comparable to the front seats).
GT cars have back seats for "occasional use" (i.e., flip down, padded cardboard, always smaller and less comfortable than fronts). Example: Jag XKE is a sports car, Jaguar XKE 2+2 is a GT car.
What they did to classify a Camaro (defined by DOT as 4-5 passenger) would be largely politics: if enough big sponsors vapor-lock, it's a GT car. If not (or the winning GT sponsors have even more money) it's a sedan.

Camaro's and Firebird's are "sedans" ?  I would have thought Coupe's !!

The older ones can run in Classic ie,,, classic gas coupe   like  C/CGC ?

The newer ones ??

Good thing I run classic coupes (rules easier to understand ,,LOL  NOT !!!)
