license question
« on: November 08, 2010, 11:48:08 PM »
so what's up with the license deal?  i think that i'm about to lose mine for a point  violation....hence i'm preping my bike for the races.  i've had my motorcycle license for going on 10 years, a drivers license for longer.  i've even got my 8 year ama card, beginners and advanced msf completion cards. please don't tell me they're going to shut me down for doing some wheelies in my home city....?!...
thanks
doug

The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.

Rule 7.A.1 states "Land speed record attempts or record trial are open to all SCTA or BNI members in good standing.  A current and valid state drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement is required".   Thats pretty straightforward and theres not a lot of wiggle room in it.  But I'm not the one who makes the decisions.  Maybe if you write to the SCTA they could make an exception for an experienced but licenseless stunta/racer.

I am pretty sure there's no wiggle room.  A friend of mine with a suspended license checked for a car approval and was told that it was an insurance compliance issue to have a valid drivers licenses to race. Don't know about the motorcycle side, so might want to write them a letter as suggested above.  Tony

Put a 3 wheel on your bike (wheel on a steeeck).......no motorcycle endorsement required......unless of course..... SCTA/BNI may have a different interpretation of state laws.................................................

How do you plan to get to the events with no license?

Good question, Dan.  I'll guess he'll do like I did when my license was suspended that time (no, I won't tell you why, but it was not for accumulated points) -- he'll drive anyway and hope that he isn't pulled over.  That "attitude" got me through 90 days.

That is an SCTA requirment but not a Bubs requirement if you might need to consider a different venue.  At Bubs they have 14 y/o kids riding.

thanks for the input....and i think i've gotta have a chase vehicle, right?  <gen requirements, 1.L (support vehicle with a cb and an extinguisher)>    guess i'd have to go out there with someone....  ...or maybe i could just convince the dmv that it's for work...........  saddening i can't race there without a license, but my home track and dragstrip could care less!

I have been racing since prior to the implementation of driver licencing.... I have never been asked to show my government issued drivers licence after the first year getting the competition licence... that was 25 or more years ago....
