Nov lakes meet cancelled
« on: November 07, 2010, 02:25:29 PM »
The SCTA board of directors have made the unfortunate decision to cancell the last El Mirage meet of the season on Sat., Nov. 6th.

An onsite inspection in the morning and discussions with the BLM forced this decision. There is standing water, slightly receeded in the past few days on the East end of the lakebed where the pits and start line would be located. The day was very windy, but low temps do not lead to rapid drying.  I understand there is rain forecast in the upcoming week also.

Pictures provided by Mirimam Macmillan from the lakebed.

No meet can be scheduled the following week due to a previous useage contract by another user.

Thanks for the early warning Dan.  Still nothing on the SCTA site.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

The SCTA website coordinator was among the first notified (10:42am), but unfortunately he does not live beside his computer. It is up to date now.

There was no way the lake would dry in time - either with standing water going away or surface drying out well enough to run on. Just one of those things.

Miriam,

Thanks, I was wondering if that was still on or not, and if the location had changed.

We announced an alternate site at the board meeting and in the minutes. Your club reps have the current flier (with the alternate address) and the address and flier are on the SCTA web site.

Let everyone know - it should be good!

Dear Tim,

I have been informed by the Department of Public Works, County of San Bernardino we are being issued a Special Event Permit for the use of an abandoned strip of "Historic Route 66" in the Devore area to hold our November 21st event. This solves the mystery for us of whether or not BLM will be opening El Mirage for the SCTA's November 13th/14th meet, or for our's.

If the SCTA is interested in running its event the weekend of November 20th/21st contingent upon your opening the lake between now and then, and we are the only impediment to your letting them schedule, by all means please consider letting them do so.

Thank you so very much for all of your kind assistance.

Sincerely,

Alan

This is my rookie year. When and where is the banquet? Im sure my club will let me know. Just curious?
Also my money is spent and the trailer loaded, we will being going out to ElMo this weekend to do some dirt bike riding without the pressures of racing. if anyone else want to come out we will be camping in the hills.
I know, "stay off the lakebed"
