A facebook friend linked me this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT4ub9oKwdM

I'm not aware of an "art car" class with any of the sanctioning bodies, but what I don't know about land speed racing would fill the internet.

On 9-27-08 we lost a great friend and fellow racer, he was the BEST, he helped anyone with anything at anytime.  His name is Dave Owen and he will be missed by all that knew him and I am glad to have met him.

Seeing him at Bonneville during 2008 Speedweek was the tops, Dave was in awe of the salt and as usual was there helping out anyone who asked..simply put we lost a great man who will be missed by all.

It takes a lot of hard work, time, and money to race a car/bike on the salt. Anybody that can accomplish making a pass on the salt is alright with me. I may not like the way his car looks, but 146 MPH is not slow in my book. Great job!  cheers

That car ran for time only. No record recorded. I got to take a close look at this at WOS as I inspected it in tech. Its a turd but had a healthy engine in it. The cage was built with 4" 1/4 wall square tube. Neat but dont know if worth the money to do?

The quote I've always heard is "Go fast, Be safe, Have fun."

I saw the car, and my wife chatted with them when she took some pics.  What was clear is that the team did all three, with emphasis on the "Have fun".  They ain't stupid. cheers

Right on.. wink  made it to Bonneville, paid the entry fee, passed the inspection procedure, ran a few passes and had a great time doing it..never will be in a record book and most likely doesn't care either.

Good for them.

So the USFRA's SpeedWeek would be the best bet for a group of road racers who want to find out who the top dog would be on the salt?  Our cars should meet tech for the 150 club and since it is a budget based sanctioning body I doubt anyone would exceed the 159 mph limit.
