CX500T what kind of potential?
« on: October 14, 2010, 05:27:42 PM »
Just curious about these bikes. I needed the rear wheels off one of these and ended up with a basket case. This thing looks to be way ahead of is time (1982). Do they have any records or are they just to old? Can the turbos be brought up to the latest standards. If these have potential I'd like to find out all I can about the mods necessary to realize it. Any idea what classes whould suit it best? thanks George

Isn't this the engine Honda made into a flat-tracker, by rotating the crank axis? There's got to be some potential, they're cheap and don't like losing.

They do give you the opportunity to run a Honda in a push rod class.
Drive shaft limits your gearing options, others have used CX650 gears.

If it's really that important to you that anything I say is wrong, please ignore me, and I'll do likewise?

no the cx motor and the flat track motor were definitely different... we have been racing them for 10 years.... we have tried to put the motor cover off of Keith Lynas dirt tracker and the cases are absolutely different.... we were gonna cast a few for our projects but the cases are different as well as the mounting lugs.... the cylinder water jackets are way bigger than the cx to overcome the overheating problems the cx's had.... the motors shared almost nothing except that they were a v-twin and then they changed them again to the NS motor.... they were sand cast cases and covers.... No panic I'm not just disagreeing with you to do so, your just wrong on this.... Stating the CX motor is the same as the DT motor is like stating Spencers NSR500 was a NS400 street bike motor.... we got the motors and bikes here if you want to come over and see for yourself....

question for 1212FBGS. are you saying that team honda never ran a cx500 motor in a flat tracker.

they appeared to be a cx500 v-twin and they called it cx based but the "race" motors we different crankcase castings, the motor mounts were different and the bolt holes for the case to output chain drive cover were not the same as the shaft drive covers also the crank tapers for the ign rotors were way different as well as the chain drive up to the camshaft.... the cylinders that were integrated into the main case castings had bigger "bulges" for more water capacity and the heads were way different... they just didn't turn the heads around like some of the magazines misreported...... we got this bike here if ya wanna come down and look at it
