Coming to El Mirage in November
« on: October 10, 2010, 06:22:25 AM »
Hi All

I am coming over from Ireland to El Mirage for the November meeting but never having been there before I need some info. I will be flying into Los Angeles on the Thursday evening and picking up a hire car but I need help on where to stay, getting access to the necessay places etc.

I am especially interested in how I can get involved in order to break the Irish Land Speed Record which was set in EL Mirage back in 1999 at 301.409 mph.
Can I hire a seat, can I buy into a project, do I build from scratch?

All help would be appreciated

Welcome Nave... most of the motels are in Victorville about 15-20 miles from El Mirage go west from Victorville on
Palmdale rd to 395 turn right go about 3 miles turn left on Crippen rd to [map is vague here] to koala rd turn right go about 1/2 mile and turn left on EL Mirage rd, go about 3 more miles and entrance to EL MIRAGE dry lake is on right , pay entrance fee [$15?] races at west end of lake about 4 miles
Lots of racers stay at the Days Inn below Coco's restaurant phone # 760-241-7516

how can someone set an irish land speed record in california. there is no way the scta or anyone that owns a car that can go 300mph is going to let a stranger jump in that car and go 300mph. not going to happen. the only thing you will be doing at elmo in nov is watching.

The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.

I don't think the Irish LSR federation is too fussy as to where the Irish land speed record is set so long as an Irishman is driving/riding.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

If you want to see what the lakebed looks like at 70mph I can sell you some seat time? From one Irishman to another.

Ya, John.  Which one of your parts holds the records?

I think you have the right tuneup in the car now. Just bring it to El Mirage.
