Remote oil filter...will hose size affect oil pressure?
« on: October 09, 2010, 11:53:38 AM »
I was told that I shouldnt run a hose bigger then a #8 because the oil pressure will drop too much.

My thoughts are that the bearings are the restriction where the head pressure is made and the oil pump-pressure regulator are the same, so how how does a hose size to the filter affect pressure if everything else is the same?
I could see it taking a second more to build pressure with the larger ID.

it is a overall length and amount of turns / bends type of thing.

we build then with nothing less than a #8

#10 is common

you must be certain that the end fittings or if / when it goes thru a reducer / coupler that the fitting does not have a restriction too.

but I know that you know that allready.

Keep lines short, straight as possible and large. Kato is correct. Assuming a wet sump, there is a way to block the pressure valve (solid spacer instead of spring) and set up a new adjustable pressure relief at the entrance to the block. My engine machinist says this works well on dirt oval cars and is common.

Try to avoid any hard bends or right angle bends or fittings

bigger hoses will give less internal surface drag and will allow for more volume.....
