This motor wants to know:

THis old wreck is a few miles from my cabin high in the mountains of southern Oregon.
My pops and his cronies (very knowledgeable in old junk), have no idea what this old motor is, however there is talk it could be a 1919(ish) Buick.

Any thoughts?Huh?

OMG! I think if you google   1920 HAYNES motor
you will have a clue.  Looks like your photos show a cast iron upper and an aluminum lower crankcase that supported the cam? Elwood Haynes did more than build America's first car, he also discovered/invented stainless steel and stellite.  I think youv'e stumbled across an historic treasure. Although,,, it would be hard to believe that a car built in Indiana would be found in Oregon. Iv'e been hunting those things for over 50 years.

I'll be watching this thread to see if there are any other/better guesses,
Thanks for makin my heart pound, RICK HAYNES

On 9-27-08 we lost a great friend and fellow racer, he was the BEST, he helped anyone with anything at anytime.  His name is Dave Owen and he will be missed by all that knew him and I am glad to have met him.

Seeing him at Bonneville during 2008 Speedweek was the tops, Dave was in awe of the salt and as usual was there helping out anyone who asked..simply put we lost a great man who will be missed by all.

of note,

the lifters are contained and kept in alignment .....within a metal "block" that is then installed into the aluminum lower case.

JH- Check with Rich Fox here on the Forum. He seems to know about all those classic motors pretty well IMO.

Same company that produced the Rolls Cannardly.  Rolls down one hill and can hardly get up the next.
