El Mirage Blog Post on Jalopnik
« on: October 03, 2010, 12:56:20 AM »
Hey guys, I wrote up a blog post after I got back from my first visit to ElMo, and they've got it running over at Jalopnik.com.  It would be interesting to hear what you guys think about my impressions, particularly how it seems that ElMo never really moved out of the Post-War phase and the future of the events there.

Let me know what you think,

That is a good and thoughtful article.  It is a blessing that the media and big money has not discovered us.

Haven't been able to get to El Mo yet myself.  That said, thought it captured the essence of LSR very well.

AS John says, errors - the car pictured is a '34 Ford, the top speed record is 312 MPH. Did you talk to anyone about facts before writting your blog?

Nice try, join us at Bonneville for a true taste of the wonderful things that mankind can do.

Mr. Matt Brown

Even from me that may have come out a little harsh..it should have read please get your facts correct before you write for others to see, also I was guessing you had not raced based by your creative writing skills however if I were a non racer I would not have known the faults of the article however you have a great skill with putting fingers to keyboard.

Now when will you come out and experience what the rest of the racers see everything, starting with a beautiful sunrise, the smell of a fellow racer/camper making early morning coffee, the sounds of the first engine to light the cool morning air..the drone of the ultra-lights buzzing from above.

Now get your ride ready and come on out...

Noonan, am a bit worried over your description of the "smell of a fellow racer . . ."

The poor guy, or gal, might have ben out on the laked bed for two/three days.

Personal hygene isn't always at its best under those circumstances.

That's why I come out to bystand on Sunday morning, and don't get too close to competitors in the lanes.

Of course by the time I show up in impound you and guys like Record Rick are long gone!

"the smell of a fellow racer".   Thats how we find each other when the dust blows up real bad!
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

It's easy for IB to smell his fellow racer in the morning, he rolls over and asks "how do you want your eggs"

IMHO,even if your facts were a little off,an excellent article that captures the essence of the LSR experience at Elmo. I think it will keep going on even after the 'O.G.'s' go to that drylake in the sky. Sanctioned racing at Elmo pre-dates NHRA and NASCAR. And there was alot of unsanctioned before that! The only thing that will stop it is the flannel clad,Birkenstock shod, tofu fartin' fairies of the Eco Left and the BLM.

Good writing, good imagery. It doesn't have to be 100% spot on accurate to be a good story.
Stories are truth "told" well.

Nice job
