Sad news for the racing community this morning, Joaquin Arnett passed away after battling Alzhiemer's and bout's with Pneumonia. Legendary Drag Racer and Leader of his Bean Bandits will be missed by many.
Will announce services as info is available.

"Got'Cha" was first run in 1974. Bill Temple entered both 2 clubs in 1976 with records in AA/BGR. At El Mirage 201.79 and Bonneville at 220.
In 1977 Greg Temple started driving "Got'Cha" and entered the El Mirage Dirty 2 club in 1979 @ 201.97. Greg went on to set two records at Bonneville, one in 1981 at 241.848, then in 1991 he set another record at 262.230
Bill and Greg were the first father and son to enter the El Mirage Dirty 2 club. They broke the D/BFR at Bonneville in 1981 @ 241 with top speed of 249. This record still stands today. In 1991 they set the A/BFR @ 262 which was later broke by Duane McKinney.

Sorry to hear of his passing, I met him in 1954 at Santa Ana. That whole bunch were a blast to be around. They were lakes and Bonneville racers and another generation is following what he started.

Some memories of Joaquin and friends. Some of the first parties at the Bean Bandits KOA tent site (homebuilt gas powered marqurita mixers), and later the bigger parties. Sometimes I wonder if those get togethers led to the salt talks later? Joaquin showing off climbing a light pole at the tent site. Joaquin telling stories about his service in the military in WWII Iwo Jima and the Aleutian Islands. (don't know how much of it was true!). Joaquin and Jeff arguing about all kinds of things. Joaquin putting his signature under the hood of "Ethel" the famous 63 Dodge 330, our 411 chase car. Dinner with Joaquin and the Bean Bandits at Wendover. Anyhow, there's alot more memories, my Mom and I just thought of a few. We'll really miss that guy.

Here's another long time racing fan that's really saddened to here the news.
Talk about a whole crew of "wild and crazy guys"; I remember them from way back, seems like 50's or 60's, always doing well.
Saw the group at Bonneville a few years back, and was surprised at how well they still had their act together.

I met Joaquin in 1995 at Muroc. My son's and I became supporters of the Bean Bandits and had many good times with him. There is a good chance I wouldn't be involved in land speed racing had I not met him. Always friendly and great fun to see the sparkle come to his eyes when asking about old engine tricks. I ran against Joaquin and the Bean Bandits with my bike at the old blimp base in Santa Anna.....sometime back in the 1950's.........they were a outstanding group of racers.....and lot's of fun....................

Met Joaquin through Holly Hedrich in the early 50s. I saw him off & on over the years at Santa Ana drag reunion. The last time i saw him was 1999 at B-Ville. He was a really nice guy and will be missed. R.I.P.
