Pre Race Inspection uncovers potential Problem
« on: September 22, 2010, 10:33:33 PM »
What a busy day, then about 4:45pm when checking the valve train and setting the lash .. Salter finds the #5 exhaust valve has the Titanium locks pulled deep into the Ti Retainers.  This looks odd and finding it  has delayed our schedule but may have prevented a catastrophic failure.

As soon as CV Race products open in the morning off to get a new set of locks and retainers.  If one is fatigued or flawed, others may be as well, better safe than sorry. Well more work tomorrow.  Should be at track for tech by 12 Noon Friday.

Bummer, Charles - but great that you caught it.  And you don't have to disassemble EVERYTHING to fix it.

Problem resolved... The locks that where in the motor and looked suspicious where 10 degree steel.  of the 16 pair only 1 pair was worn and riding low in the retainer.

I went to CV Race Products and got some Excldyne Super 7 Titanium locks and all is back together now and running good.

Even though only one pair of the 16 steel locks had premature wear, my Motor Man (Brian Salter) and I decided better to "upgrade" to the Ti locks and replace all of them.

Hope to leave by 9am and be at the track before Noon tomorrow.
