10 runs over 400. Almost 400 for Rocky. Arguably the best week ever for LSR. Historic. Epic! I can't wait for the movie. Hmm. Maybe Brad Pitt can play SSS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What ticks me off is no media coverage from Salt Lake on any of this. What a shame. Wendover is just a bus stop to them. There is so much history in Wendover.
That's why the internet is so great and the news papers and the postal systems are going broke.
I am blurry eyed from looking at this screen but wouldn't have missed it for anything.
One there here to ponder is all these 400mph runs and a very safe meet, I think the media mostly perks up if they hear about an accident or injury unfortunatly. I agree Glen.

Nancy and I are at SLCInt'l airport, leaving in less than a half-hour for Ord. There we'll hang out for 2 hours or more in late afternoon (their time) and board for the 75-minute flight to Marquette Universal Aerodrome. It's a big airport -- we've got TWO gates. That's huge, hey?
So -- Jim the Texican is calling and emailing and working to get media coverage set up, and I'll be writing up a release or two to submit to said media. I'll try to get it done while riding on the plane (we've got exit row seats so I'll have a bit extra room to type) and I'll email it to Jim during our hiatus at O'Hare.
We'll do what we can from this end. Unh, maybe I should ask all of youse guys to contact your local media and ask them to scrounge some coverage. We can hope to get it on the newswires, or they can email or call me so I can give them the story. My email, I remind you, is jonwennerberg (at) nancyandjon.org.** My telephone is 906 361 6282. Spammers -- don't pay any attention to the previous line, hey?
**I'll suggest that you have them read back the email address if they take it from you -- it's very common for folks to miss the ".org" and substitute a ".com". That won't work. They'll also add an "h" in Jon. Nope -- don' do that, Desi.
Let's give 'em a big story and make them regret that they weren't there. No, maybe I shouldn't say that -- if they were there I would have had to shove through too many camera crews to do any good.
Finally (for now, at least) -- thanks to Mike Cook and all of the Land Speed Enterprises team. I'll be making up souvenir coffee mugs for them - and for the individual teams. I'll probably also do up a run opf cups for you folks. They'll be $10/each plus shipping from Marquette, Michigan. When you order -- specify red, black, green, or blue.
Ta-ta for now -- gotta go sit on the wing of the plane for three hours. At least it'll give my hair a great "doo".

Jon, I hope you get to close your eyes for a few minutes.
With a week that had speeds like that my eyes would be bulging out of their sockets!
Did you get the run logs from Friday and Saturday? I would like to put the complete speeds in the recap.

It certainly required some "at the track" changes for Ack Attack to accomplish their record.
That's nothing new for Mike.
He was a tuner for a top level flat track motorcycle racer in the prime era of Flat Track Motorcycle racing.
Tuning for the changing conditions of a clay track were instantaneous decisions between the heat races and the Main.
He was a winner then and at least during the Shoot Out, he had more time to make the needed decisions.
It's almost like an unfair advantage.
It also helped to have a rider who has had clay on his teeth.
This week Mike got his PhD. in motorcycle speed after winning the Main Event for 2010.
Mike, which was more rewarding? Jim's win at the first San Jose Mile or the FIM record?
No broken shoulders this time.

394 MPH WOW Rocky was 18 mph faster entering the mile than previous run, so was it riding our tuning our combination? JL222 On further examination a 15 mph increase from entry to exit points to tuning still a hell of a ride.

I seriously doubt tuning had anything to do with the increase. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that they had it geared for 385 in fourth; so I'm guessing on the third pass they chucked the RPM limit out the door, just wrung the engines out. Just a guess, this is something true racers would do

Welcome to the greatest show on earth Thanks Jon , Nancy, Ray and everyone else that kept us glued to our computers Thanks and Congrats to Mike Cooks and everyone that assisted in making the meet happen . Huge congratulations to the teams I felt a huge sense of achievment just reading through the problems encountered and the final successes for most participants , can only imagine what it felt like from that end.

Just a guess, this is something true racers would do All tuning is not just engine And I seriously doubt they were hitting the rev limit on previous runs or they would have had an even larger increase from entry to exit with same tune up. There not going to limit their speed to 367. JL222
