Huh!  Using Sum's spreadsheet for speeds in gear, with a 1.80:1 final drive and a 29" tire, 9000 rpm results in 431.37 mph (no slippage  :-) )

Wonder what the actual figures are.

Hey Ray, where do I find the "auto-refresh" plug-in for Firefox? I have checked add-ons, downloads, extensions, and plug-ins with no joy. I'm getting a stiff neck looking from the bottom of the page (the last post) to the top for a refresh in IE.  :-D

I gave ya the wrong name.  It's ReloadEvery:

Entry speed 248 -- shut off.  Coasting through timed stretch.

So what happen to Nish.

I heard broken driveshaft, of all things...maybe the driveshaft virus crossed the pits from P&M.

Ray, from my nosebleed elevation cheap seat far from the stage, you and Jon have reached a new level of getting the info, and photos, out to us.  Thanks to you both.

Mike,

Did you account for tire growth? At 400 I would think they are around 30 inches.

Just a number I plugged into the spreadsheet.  I'm a V4F guy, so 9000 rpm seems ungodly fast.

Of course, Tom, I took tire growth seriously into account.

Would tire growth at 400 mph compensate for the wheel slipage.

We're back from the "worker's" supper at the Black and White/Carmen's.  Great spare ribs and trimmings -- good times and good buddies.

Tomorrow's fun is forecast to start at eight or so -- with the Speed Demon ready to run, the Ack bike supposedly ready with new tires, maybe the Nish car with a fixed drive shaft (that's what I heard - they hurt it.  I don't have confirmation from the team, though).  Never can tell what the Spectre will do -- but today it put Amir into the pretty exclusive club of drivers that have driven a wheel-driven car over four hundred miles per hour.

So -- among others at the Black and White tonight was James Rice, who handed me the thumb drive with the run results on it.  Here's the list from today:

Wind:10mph from the S

Let's see if any of you caught that one run near the end of the day.  Cook had a visitor on the salt and gave him a run through the lights in the Cookmobile dually diesel pickup.

There was one better run, but dang it, no timing slip.  Two workers were doing a sweep, one almost a full mile ahead of the other.  The clocks showed entry speed of 29 mph, exit speed of 20 mph, and mile speed of 297 or so.  That would have been a great souvenir, wouldn't it?

C U in the morning, folks.  Thanks for letting me help you enjoy the Top Speed Shootout 2010 - for another day.

PS  I'll ask Nate Jones about tire diameter and growth at speed.  Tomorrow I'll ask, okay?
