They're hand pushing the Ack bike back in to the pits, no idea of what, if anything, kept Rocky from putting down some even bigger numbers.   The Scott Horner team is ready to make a run from the 8 mile (up by the mountain end of the course) back to the pits.  Nish car is running and the breeze is bringing the fine bouquet of fuel to me here in the truck.  Ah, how nice. . .

Bike 1078, Scott Horner up, will be making his run in a few minutes.  He's suited up and ready to run.  Cook is now putting the "program" for the Camaro, the Spectre, and the Speed Demon together for the next few hours.  I'll letcha know when I hear anything.

Five minutes or less before Scott runs.

Update -- rider is getting on the bike right now.

Please talk to mike and ask if they are still having "handling" issues even when their is no wind present, ask him to look at the shock mounts to see if one of them is broken on the rear wheel as that happened to me when I went to ride it in 2005..it was not seen by me until after Charlie looked it over and it was inspected..

Hope it's something simple and that Rocky can lay down a nice record, funny thing is I don't think Rocky ever made any 300mph passes during an event and now he makes them every time with ease, Mike built a great machine that is rider friendly and Rocky makes it look easy.

That must be without the boost turned up since the speeds are so low and so close in the entry, mile, and kilo or perhaps logging data before he turns it up?

Coupla things.  First of all, FIM Charlie says we all should have read the posts from last year -- when he answered that question.  FIM says two CONSECUTIVE runs within the 2-hour window.  End of discussion.

As for Scott's speeds being low -- the course is wet out there.  I didn't have the camera with me, but there's no question he found some wet salt.  He said the bike was pendulum-swinging and that's okay, but then it wanted to "walk" to one side in the gooey stuff so he had to pedal it quite a bit.  He's not going to make a return run now, even though there's no number in the class -- it's open.

Super news -- and this one just could be historic:

Nish has the car aboutready and wants to make a two-way run.  They'll trailer to the far end and start the run, then, assuming the down run is good, drive the car nder power in a U-turn here in the pits and just continue back up the course.  Dave Petrali has confirmed that there's no reason he couldn't do it (rules do not forbid), so we might have something really cool happening soon.

Speed Demon pit says they're ready to run, but will trailer the car to right where I'm sitting and wait.  Spectre is on the trailer and about halfway down the course to the mountain end for a run.  

Camaro 7572 is on the push truck and moving down to the 2 mile or so where they'll make a run right away.  They only get a five-mile course -- Cook doesn't want them running faster than any of the other competitors and "embarrassing" anyone.

No cruise control on the bike, although I think I saw an XM radio head -- maybe Scott was listening to a mellow tune. . .

Camaro is running,  through the two and shut it off.

So he plans to slow down from over 300 plus with no chute an just turn around?

Nish, Nearburg, Poteet and Burkland have all shown they can run the course and coast to a stop in their pits on a prepositioned tarp with NO Parachute. Burkland used just his air brakes the rest just have coasted to the end. Making the turn could be tricky with limited steering and judging the distance needed for a loop and not get stuck somewhere. Of course they all could maybe just gas it a little and whip a shitty at the end and go.

Good question about the chute/no chute thing.  Yeah, while I don't have an answer -- they're hoping to put down a good number and do a return run without shuttging down the motor.  Remember, though -- this is the 5 liter N/A motor-- so getting it whoa-ed down without a chute won't be quite such a chore.  I assume they've got their plans pretty well made.

Spectre is going to run first.  Amir is getting suited up.  Speed Demon is proceedig down the course to the mountain end, just like the Nish car.

Mike Akatiff took another quick look at the rear shock mounts when I asked him, John -- says that's not the problem, and now the bike is leaning left.  They're now serving lunch in the Ack pit while the bike gets gone over.  No formal time schedule for when Rocky will run again.

Jon, they might not be able to do a complete u-turn, you're right.  It's soft down at the freeway end -- Speed Demon had to get pushed from the soft stuff the other day when the car was being moved down there.

He has sprint car time as well, Al Teague did a return run one year and looked like a drift car

They have posed problems everytime they have run them.
