The lawnmower just made a 890+ mph run and they're about as excited as can be.  You'd think they just earned a red hat!  So all of us in the pits are heading to the mower pit (which is next to the BNI course across from the tower) to share the fun and cheering.  I'll even get photos for you.  They're doing an FIA-style one hour turnaround so maybe they'll be able to say they quaklified for a record (whether there's a class for them or not, meaning that the FIA should create one, I guess).

890 mph??? WOW! I bet the Brits will be heading back to the drawing board to re-evaluate their choice of a jet/rocket hybrid.  :-D

Mike Akatiff explained the slow run by telling us that Rocky is having shifting troubles.  The bike shifts fine when hanging from the transporter, in the pit, but didn't go into high on the course.  They're changing fluids and going to try another run soon.

Hey, forgive me a typo, hey?  I meant to type 90+, not 890.  They can dream, though. . .

.."I meant to type 90+, not 890"...

darn im cancelling my order for that 104+ booster stuff....

so...is one of ack's motors with the damaged tranny..?...hopefully
he can increase the kill time to motors to make shift, and or roll off
some throttle to make shift....

maybe Ack liner can make some Teague like shifts....slow but sure....

Bobby Cleveland on the 104 Octane Boost lawnmower that just made two passes for an average of 87+ in the mile and 90+ in the kilo.

Not too shabby for a lawnmower.  Mike Cook really gave 'em some good aero advice and it worked.

...since Mike is a car guy...he doesnt realize you can reduce
frontal area by about 1/4-1/3 by leaning forward and getting
your freakin head DOWN....

I'm just hackin' on you, Jon.
(I was kinda wondering how much arm strength it would take to hang onto that contraption going 890 mph.)

Thanks for the great job reporting. Reading the updates is almost as good as being there....almost

Just a $.02 thought on improving the shifting of motorcycle transmissions from my KR/XLR assembly on the kitchen table (bachelor) days:  Have the gears tumbled in a ceramic media barrel.  It rounds the corners while polishing the flats.

I just overheard a conversation where the rider was saying that if he got into any more of a tuck, he couldn't see anything except the hood.  So they're gonna remove the seat which will lower him by a coupla inches and then give him room to slide back.  They aren't through yet

Maybe they can wrap a ratcheting tie-down around him to help him hunker down a bit more? No pain, no gain!

Good eye, mite!
Reminds me of 50 years ago, we would lap in the straight cut first gear in Jaguars, with fine valve grinding compound, so they could be shifted into first whilst still moving; thus avoiding the angry catlike snarl.
There was also the thing with used spark plug gaskets on the shifter shaft to keep it from going over center and locking up.

They call it backcutting/undercutting the gears now. All the dragbikes have this done.

How much speed do you drop when you do that?

Tell him he doesn't need to see at all. Put your head down and only bring it up for the odd correction.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
