Scott Horner just ran 232 entry speed on the turbo bike.  He's thinking over whether to return or not.  He'll run on an AMA record, not an FIM one.  The speeds were  entry 232.7   kilo 228.7   mile  227.4   exit  218.4

We're about done with this event from the car point -- Speed Demon is doing a beauty shoot in the afternoon light, Spectre is packing it up for the meet, and I've just been asked to do an unnatural act.  Will be back in a few minutes. Here's a hint of what's coming up.

Did I understand that the lawnmower's number is 104? That's my number. I'm protesting. Or something.

and meanwhile...there was this loud noise in the pits and as Slim so eloquently put it, "WTF" was that?

Well, is was "a rapid decompression event" as the OSU guys put it last year.  In other words, they had a blowout occur to one of their tires...that's foto 1 & 2.

Then there's that beauty shot of the Demon he was talkin about...

Just a note regarding the Speed Demon manifold failure. Every pressurized system has a relief valve, it may not look like  a relief valve and in the case of the Speed Demon's manifold it looked like the top cover plate. It may only work one time but all pressure systems when taken to their max pressure will find a relief valve. Probably more cost efficient if you designed one in to the system though!

Great point Rex,

And I am sure that is what Marlo had in mind when installing Burst panels on Target 550 intake system.

I would think they were lucky the body didn't get damaged and cause other problems. That's a lot of air being released into a closed area.

Okay so where's the pix of Seldom Seen Rollie on his scooter?
And make SURE he has a "blow out" panel in his shorts when he makes his historic run on the other Holy Grail of Bonneville Histoire.  Wouldn't want to build up too much, ummmm.... pressure.

Absolutely right.  They wanted to make sure that any unwanted "sudden overpressure events" were handled the way THEY wanted 'em to be, rather than finding the weakest point to exit.

Photos of SSS in his tuck on the scooter, Greg Akatiff on the Segway and the lawnmower coming up.  They were shot with a real long lens in fading light and WAY too far away (I was at the timing stand), so I don't guarantee much crystal clarity.

Did any cars go 400 in 2008 or 2009?  From 1965 to 2008, it appears only wheel driven 4 cars have gone 400 or better (on the salt).  This week 5 cars broke 400.  Historic.
