And the weather is cool so it's easier to work on a change over like that.

The Nish car is going home because they hurt the drive shaft on the return run yesterday.  I've said this before -- just confirmed it with TJ.  Ray and I were over at their pit for the certificate ceremony -- I'll let him post his photos of Terry and Mike and the entire team getting those important papers.

Lunch is served at the Top One Oil pit -- we're headed that way after I take off my pants.

As soon as WHAT?

Here's the photo.

The crews have to be getting tired with all of the work they are doing.
Changing motors, turbos, tires, rear ends, and who knows what else.

Ray, I wondered if anyone would catch that little playon words.  But then, think about it -- I'm on vacation, at the absolute bestest place on the planet, and traveling with Nancy -- could it get any better?

Back to racing -- George Poteet and the Speed Demon are at the far end, George is getting dressed (see?  Another refenece to salt flats attire), and about to enter the vehicle.  he'll be making a run soon.  Only a few minutes form running.

The problem earlier was just the clutch going broke -- not oil on it, just breaking as he put the car into third gear.  New clutch installed, car ready to run.  We'll see what it does.  The 347" turbo motor is in it this time -- and don't forget, they've still got the 4-cylinder mill in reserve, really, really wanting to go 400 with a four.  Maybe tomorrow. . .

My hat's off to Mike, Terry and the whole Nish crew on a job well done. This year has to be so much more gratifying then the past couple of years. They finally busted through that elusive 400mph barrier and joined an elite group of teams/drivers. Although they didn't get the Summer's Bros. record, they can hold their heads high knowing they came damn close. I'm guessing they've also learned a lot this year about there big motor set-up and will come back swinging next year.

In re: The Nish Team and the future -- Terry was saying at the ceremony, that at this point in the year and the meet they're saying NO to the future and running the car.  It's always this way -- leaving the salt they're glad it's all done.  Then, by the time they get back to SLC, it's "Let's get going on the effort for next year".

Speed Demon is about to run, all vehicles are locked down and anxiously awaiting George's run.  As are we all.

Canopy is being put down, engine is running.

Heads up,. he's hoping to rock and roll this time, car is moving.

Through the one mile and booking right smartly along.

Sounds like he shut it down before the three mile.

Canopy is open, all looks okay -- save that I expect George is grumpy.  Don't know what happened.

Just a wild guess, but it would make sense if George noticed something wrong and stopped on course to go back to the mountain end to start another run.

No word from the Speed Demon crew.  The car is still NOT in the pit -- so I don't know what's what.

The Spectre is getting ready to make a run from the far end -- maybe 15-30 minutes, maybe sooner.

Spectre support vehicles are on their way back to the pit; the car is just about to make a run.

As an aside, this morning I asked the desk guy at Motel 6 about Speedweek 2011 -- and he right away told me they're sold out.  No surprise -- just letting you know that not much has changed in the hassle of getting rooms for Speedweek.  There's always the Bend in the Road, but we've been lucky for the past few years and haven't had a big rainfall during the event -- which moisture turns the Bend area into a mud-bog and makes getting around and out of there dang near impossible.  Be forewarned if you're thinking of staying there -- the chance of bad weather makes it necessary to hope. . .

Spectre's driver, Amir Rosenbaum, is getting into the car right now.  A run is evidently eminently imminent.  We're just waiting for the support truck/car dolly to clear the course.  The dolly bounces a bunch during non-transport duty -- so they move at moderate speeds.

Okay, they're ready to run.  The canopy is going down on the car.  I'll start a new post.  Engine is running.

Another aside.  There were so many campers, trailers and motor homes at the Bend that they could have had their own zip code.  That was Friday thru Sunday.  By Tuesday it was a ghost town.

The Spectre is moving away from the push truck.

Moving -- through the zero, through the one mile.

By the two, coming fast, gaining speed.  High gear, past the three mile, coming faster still.

Entry speed 401   kilo  408   exit speed 414

Chute is out.

Official speeds   entry 401.5   mile  408.0   kilo  408.2   exit 414.4

Good run.
