When are the DVDs available???? what a GREAT shootout!!!  and its not over yet.

Well....now that ya asked about it, I'll have DVDs available with the unedited photo images on 'em for those who'd like to contribute.  I'd do DVDs with fade in/fade out, music, etc...but you'd have to wait for months before try were completed.

If someone wants to make a professional DVD presentation from my images, I'm open to that, too.

must sleep now

Many things I don't undersand but one thing I do know;

3600 divided by the number of seconds is MPH.

It doesn't seem  that there can be any variation unless it is the number of decimal points after the whole number.

Educate me, Please, you mathematical wizards.

The car only runs one speed thru the mile.....it matters not how it is arrived at.

It's not like the bank figuring your mortgage payment.

FREUD

Now, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I seem to recall the FIA uses the average time instead of the average speed.

Quite a difference if there is a big gap in speeds.

Say you make 2 runs on a 140 record.
First run is 240mph=15 seconds (you really killed it)
Second run is 60mph=60 seconds (yep, you hurt the motor)

SCTA says it is a 150mph average, the record is yours.
FIA says 37.5 seconds= 96mph.... too slow.

Math is a funny thing.
If the speeds are close, there is very little difference.
Again, I'm not 100% sure if the FIA uses average time, maybe Slim could ask.

Slim, Jon, Ray, and others, when I go to a meet like this I do not know who I am talking to, what they have done, what they will be trying to do, etc.  I wander around and look at stuff and try to stay out of people's way.  These posts give me the background and significance of the races, the speeds, and lots of other good info.  Also, I do not have to drive a zillion miles to see the event, sleep in weird places, eat funky truck stop food, get salt all over the truck, etc.  Folks that are guests, send in some $ to support this.

Ray and Murph, many thanks for the help with the "auto-refresh" suggestions. Both work well.

I find setting the time too short is annoying when replying because the "reload-every" function forces the reply window your are working on, into the background and you then have to find it. But if the time is 2-3 minutes or longer it is a very nice and convenient feature.   to you both.

Thanks Slim, on the tire speed, here are some fig's I came up with.
  based on a 1.84 gear
30" tires @ 8500 rpm = 412.46 mph
29" tires @ 8500 rpm = 398.71 mph
           difference of 13.75 mph
Rick
219.648 mph F/BFMR 2010 Record
4 cylinder Esslinger
Could of had a V8

Well, since that's one of my favorites, I think I could manage it.  Might as well add Edgar Winter's Frankenstein and maybe something by Joe Satriani like Ceremony or Surfing with the Alien.  That would rock!

The "too short" issue is a problem with both.  If I was still a software developer I'd (well, after I finished doing a button bar add-on for Photoshop CS5) I'd write one that would have a delay timer based on mouse or keyboard activity.  If either had been noted in the previous...say...10 seconds (or let the user set the value), then the reload timer would be reset to zero.  Helll, write 'em with that suggestion...maybe they'll add it.

And no, I have WAY too many other projects and my memory is too poor to go back to software.  Heart disease killed it.

Moonrise.

For the photo buffs:

Canon 7D tripod-mounted
Canon 100-400 L lens, focal length 350mm
Shutter: 1/13th
Aperture: f29
ISO 400.

I've been hoping for a shot somewhat like this since I saw Freud's shot of the Pierson Coupe a long time ago...I first started trying to shoot one like it last summer...but couldn't duplicate it.  Then Barry was killed.  I quit thinking about it until yesterday when it popped up as I was at Land's End.  I sure wish there had been a 34 Ford handy.

Jon, could you please ask Kenny Hoover if they are still planning to run at World Finals and forget to ask him about the wrecking yard? I decided that that was a bit insensitive since I know Kenny would love to be in the car this week and he's a good friend.   Wayno

Hey -- the sun is up on the last day of this historic top speed meet.  Here's a quick rundown.

Ack Attack will be ready in five or ten minutes.  We've got zero wind anywhere on the course.  They went to California overnight and got the tires that used to be on the bike -- were on it when Rocky went fast a couple of years ago.  Those are on it now, the bike is in position, and we're now in lockdown so the bike can make a run during these super conditions.  About 50F right now.

Speed Demon is just about to the far end and will run when they've got permission -=- pending what happens with the Ack bike.

I'll give you Speed Demon tire growth numbers after I post these few words.

M/T tires are about 29 + a bit static, and grow about .6-.75 at 300.  From 300 to 400 they grow another inch, giving darn near 31" diameter at 400.  I think those are what Ian just told me.

Ack bike is running, we're ready to rock and roll.

Vehicle is moving!

Ack Attack bike is through the one and hitting gears just fine.  Sounds dandy.

Through the two mile.  Heading for Floating Island, engine popping bad -- don't know if it's the rev limiter or what.

Drove through the timed stretch at 311 -- backfiring.  Past the seven and slowing nicely, chute out, past the eight.

Through the nine mile, still slowing, salt is unlocked, Speed Demon will come towards us in a little while.

Dang, who woulda thunk a 311 mile speed first thing in the morning -- would be a disappointment?

Rocky is getting out, all looks good.
