Speed Demon broke a ring gear.  They're going to pit the car back into the turbo setup - in anticipation of the return tonight of the repaired other rearend.

I'll walk to the Nish pit once Nancy and I finish the ice cream bars that Ron Main just handed out to everyone.

Cec McCray, the Nish crew chief, was torquing the clutch onto the "small" engine when i went over there just now.  The motor's on the hook, not even near the car, but it's mostly together.  No forecast on if they'll try to get it ready to run today -- or just for tomorrow.

The wind is kicking up pretty well right across the highway/freeway -- big dust devils  scooting around and maybe some rain in the offing.

The sit on bike team is about to run, according to the FM radio.  It's now 25 or so after 4 local time.  Speed Demon is wrenching on the rear end, Spectre is still swapping motors, and the Ack bike is still under the awnings.

Open bike is running right now.  Wonder if that means a run in imminent.

Slim pretty well covered the team update.  Nearburg and Jet Bike Mike have gone home, one with a record, one with a busted jet engine.

Here are 4 more shots:

1.  The Spectre liner entering the pits after the last run.

2:  Dave Petrali (USAC/FIA), Terry Nish and James Rice (Timer)...the Nish team served up some ribs and corn on the cob and made sure the guys out on the track got to come in for a bite.

3:  Whoever said, "battle scars...chicks dig 'em" nailed it.  I think the Spectre team is gonna show the liner this way at SEMA to demonstrate that LSR isn't just a "strap in and go fast" form of motorsport.

4:  FINALLY someone found a helmet that will fit Pork Pie's nose.  :)

Scott Horner is on the naked turbo bike, waiting for traffic to clear so he can make a run.  The wind is gusting up -- gotta try to get a run in in case the weather goes bad.

Nice photo of Pork Pie, Ray -- it made Nancy laugh LOUDLY.

Horner is away from the pit on the turbo bike.  Looking for traction in first, rev limiter in second -- and he's just heading down to the measured stretch of the track on bike 1709 -- the 1363 turbo naked 'Busa.

He's through the three mile.

At the four mile, getting to the timed mile.

Entry speed  219.4   kilo  215.0   mile   215.3   exit  212.1

Just past the 7 mile and cruising to the far end of the bike course.  He was running on a record that MAY be an open record (per the tower), but Drew Gatewood thinks he was running on his Bub record which was under 200.

It sounds like Scott will try to make a return run -- likely about ten minutes from now.  Stay tuned.  Bike 1709 will run in a few minutes.

A couple more:

3 & 4:  Yet another rear end for the Demon.  Lindsay Strassburg from B & J Racing Transmissions is going to stick around to see how it works.

Ray,

Any chance on getting some more information on that rear end? Did Strassburg make it? Or is it some other brand?

Thanks for any help,

Tom G.

Entry speed 206.0   kilo  206.4    mile 206.4  exit 206.7

He surprised everyone -- Scott ran suddenly.  The wind has kicked up majorly and he had to get the run in before wind got about 11 mph at the tower.

First today we had a UTV puke a tranny on the course, now we've got SIX Mustang convertibles, all rentals from Las Vegas and driven by Aussies here on holiday -- going to be escorted down the course in parade formation.

Here's the last photo.  It's a really long shot for them, showing Floating Mountain in the back.  I gave them a landracing.com bumper sticker so they'll know where to look for 'em when they get back to the nether parts of the planet.

Did I show you Lindsay Strasburg showing off the rear ends that they're building for race cars?  I know Ray talked about it -- and I got to meet and shoot the breeze with Lindsay for a while, too.  Here he is - or is this Kenny Duttweiler looking at the pumpkin?  Hard to tell in the thumbnail photo. . .

Okay, we're shut down for the day.  Scott returned to his pit -- don't know if it'll be a record or not.  The wind is up and the three remaining car teams are thrashing.  Mike Akatiff says they'll be ready to make a run at EIGHT AM Utah time -- that's later than the 7AM starting time we've observed for the past few days.

I'll be back here in an hour or two, after we're back to the motel and clean up a bit.  Later - -
