Attendance had dropped off to only 99  viewers.

Sometime we leave the movie before it's over.

What's the relationship between the Bonneville 200 MPH Club and a motorcycle record above 200 MPH certified by the FIM?

I know A.J. Foyt got a Red Hat on private time, in a car.......'long time ago.

There is probably a class difference in the motorcycles.

Foyt is an honorary member as I recall, it was done on a oval. Bob Unser did it in a roadster on the salt.

I'm not going to post what I think I know, but I know that it isn't just for Bonneville SCTA/USFRA events.

Rider is about to start his run.

Entry speed is 200.166,   kilo speed is 200.9,  mile  200.7   exit speed not given yet.

Slim... really appreciate the blow by blow reporting and pics.

It seems the cars and speeds are suffering from a rough course, do they attempt to grade it any better at night?

I think they're dragging at night.  Speeds again for Jamie Williams:

Entry speed 200.1,  kilo  200.9,   mile  200.7,  exit is 201.0  That's a qualifier, I do believe.

The Speed Demon is flying to and from California to try to get parts to repair the damage to the rear end.

Slim,

Ask about the 9" Ford rearend they had made for the car? Will they put that in if they cannot get parts for the Quickchange?

Thanks,

Tom G.

Ya mean the one in the first foto?  Steve's working on it, but as has been stated, Russ and another guy (didn't get the name) are driving to San Pedro to have Ferguson rebuild/fix/replace/whatever the quickchange.

Second foto is the torn-up driveshaft.  I guess when one part sops rotating abruptly, something's gotta give....I think you can see part of what it was.

Oh, yeah...it left a few bits and pieces shown in the 3rd foto.  They're building an impressive offering to the gods of speed.

Last foto shows the gussets being welded in where the driveshaft chipped the frame tubes.

I dunno if they're gonna try the Currie housing with the 9"...I didn't get a clear answer.  I guess we'll find out later.  They just pit the skins back on the Demo and are closing up shop for the nite.

Jon, please explain a "qualifier."

I thought a record was the average of two runs over the same piece of earth.

If u went in slow, you had to back it up with a huge number.

How does "qualifying" enter into it?

Yeah, I guess you're right.  I meant it like this:  They know about what the bike can run under present conditions, and also the likelihood that the bike can go fast enough on a "return" run to make the average speed higher than the existing record speed.  You're right in that it's not like Speedweek or WoS - that the "down" run has to be faster than the exiting record.  That's the "normal" meaning of "qualifier", not the meaning for an FIM record.  I used the word loosely to imply something -- will be more careful in the future.  Thanks for the gentle reprimand.

Whatever -- he's still in the pit but will run pretty soon.  I can't define "pretty" -- but hey, he just fired up the motor.

Now the engine is off and they're looking into the top of the bike.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

The rational person lets verified facts form or modify his opinion.  The ideologue ignores verified facts which don't fit his preconceived opinions.

I just caught this foto.  It's the Spectre (not Spectrum as some folks keep saying on the radios) liner getting a bit of a push with some interesting-lookin cardboard over the front wheels.  I think they've added weight to add stability.

The sit-on bike is just ready to run...there wer questions about unidentified people on the course.  It's been an interesting day.

They're gonna lauch the bike.

Bike just ran.  They've made 4 runs in the 2 hour limit, they are not sure which runs they are gonna use...but it doesn't matter now, they just called it quits for the day with the bike.

No weight was added to the Spectre.  The cardboard is "fenders."  They just made some adjustments to the front end and are doing a quick push-only test to check it out.  With that, we're done for the day.

Poteet & Main have left, Nearburg is doing a video shoot, Nish will try again in the morning.  I dunno about Jet Bike mike or Ack.  If I forgot anyone, it's only cuz I'm exhausted.  But there's no work being done in the pits at the moment.

Williams is making his second run just now.  Obviously on it -- and I think I heard the exhaust tone change as he pushed the nitrous button.

Through the four mile.

Entry 191   kilo   197   mile   196

Gotta go take photos at the Nearburg pit -- will get the final number later.  Cook has released the fire and ambulance -- maybe.

whats going on with the jet bike.
The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.
