The speeds now, even for bikes, are a lot better than we could get at BUB 3 weeks ago. Has the salt improved since then? Or was I just incompetent? Maybe both! Can anyone compare the salt conditions now vs BUB?

Some folks have reported the salt is a bigt slick, but Nancy says she wasn't having any issues at all during her run.  Dean's bike looked like it had run in wet salt.  Robbie Cohn said he spun almost instantly, and the next run was by Lee Sicilio who spun in the same place.  



Billy's bike is under the tarp - I'll wait for tomorrow for a photo for you, John.

No, Dean made that run this morning -- Deb hasn't yet run.  She's in line now -- we expect another hour or so before she's on the race course.

Glen, the course being used is the Speedweek long course (the one closest to the mountains).  The 130 Club is running next over -- the combo course from SW.

Max and the liner crew spent all day so far dialing in the overhauled clutch, plus fixing an oil leak. We are all done, just now putting the body work on to go get in line.

Has anyone seen Max and the Vincent Streamliner?

Yep.  Everyone except Hartmut seems to be here.  They were gonna start it up but it didn't wanna crank...Max decided they'd pull the plugs and see if it would turn over...then I had to split to check other stuff.  I'll check in later and update things.

CANNON BALLS!!! DID YOU KNOW THIS?
 
It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was the problem. The storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on sixteen.
 
Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling from under the others.
 
The solution was a metal plate with 16 round indentations, called, for reasons unknown, a Monkey. But if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make them of brass - hence, Brass Monkeys.

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled.

Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey.

Thus, it was quite literally, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

I thought I would send this fabulous bit of historical knowledge to you guys that have nothing better to do than hit refresh all day...

I guess I otta post something to keep the brass monkeys away.

I think this Cutlass is running in Production Supercharged...but I can't tell.  Light's horrible where I'm editing these.

The 46 Ford runs a Chevy big block with a 14-71 lower and 3 AFB carbs...I think that's what he told me...I know it was 3 carbs and a 14-71.

Then the Amo-Steele liner gets dressed and...
...goes for a ride.  Looked and sounded REAL good.
