False reports about salt conditions for WoS.
« on: September 12, 2010, 02:03:41 AM »
It seems like every year there's some schmuck who starts the rumor that there's water on the salt just in time for World of Speed.  Anyone who has been on our list of entries knows we call if there's a problem with salt conditions and we're very honest about whatever those conditions may be.  We also post any problem with salt conditions very prominently on www.saltflats.com very quickly when/if there's a change.

All the reports I have had in the last twenty four hours say the salt is dry, no standing water and we have personnel on the salt doing the initial preparations for course set up.  If there should be a change we will be the first to post a change in conditions on our home page.  The current long range forecast is for highs in the low eighties and lows in the mid forties.  Sounds like perfect racing weather to me.

See you at the driver's meeting, eight o clock, Wednesday morning.  We're trying to get started with the first runs down the course before ten that morning.  Runs on the short course for the 130 Club are scheduled to start on Thursday morning.

But early Monday morning, I'm seeing reports of isolated T-storms on Tuesday, with a 30% chance of rain.  Deja vu (from last year) all over again?

That was a SLIGHT chance of showers and won't affect the salt at all.  A 30% chance of showers means a 70% chance you'll be standing in the wrong spot to get sprinkled on!!!  Everything is going to be great for racing, so calm down and enjoy the cooler temps on the salt!!

It has been avery dry summer and the salt can handle rain and be ok. it's during very wet summers when the water table gets high that rain can ruin an event. With as dry as it's been we'll be great. Shouldn't even be brought up
Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

At Bubs they got over 1/2 an inch of rain on Sunday night. There was standing water everywhere Monday morning.  By 2pm they were back to racing that same day.  The salt has plenty of room to absorb a little water if needed.
