C-Clip Eliminator and Disc Brakes

We are installing a narrowed 7.5" Gm rear end under the '38. It has factory disc brakes. I tried to order Moser axles today, with c-clip eliminators. I was informed that the eliminators will not work with disc brakes. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tried to do this.

Can anyone tell me how they rectified this? New brake brackets? Custom backing plates, or maybe something simpler? I have a hard time believing this can't be done!

When you narrowed you axle did you use the stock tube ends? 

When I narrowed mine I put big 9 Ford ball brg ends then used Lincoln disk brakes and resplined the lincoln axles to fit the 28 spline Torsen

We were simply narrowing the stock tubes, and ordering new,shorter, Moser axles, to use the stock disc brakes.

I'd think twice about Moser axles. Here is what happens to 40 spline Moser's at Bonneville...



Note: BIG problem with some aftermarket axles is not only material science but machine science. Moser uses a "single point cut" in their after market axle splines. That is a major weakness in axle manufacturing. As is having the root outer diameter of the spline itself smaller than the main axle shaft diameter.

Also...I would not even consider "c-clip" eliminators in a performance application that would see Bonneville. I would have the housing built with aftermarket bearing ends like that utilized in a tapered or roller ball bearing (read: cartridge type or bearing and race.) Also... read that as a safety factor...

The weld on bearing end type, offer excellent axle retention and some even offer less drag with higher load capacity. Common modifications use "Ford" big or small bearing housing ends as well as a slew of others. The choice really comes down to critical bearing speed. Not to mention that you will have less axle bearing 'end play'... which is critical with disk brake applications.

C clip eliminator bearings will leak sooner or later. I use a Moser axle with a  sealed Ford style bearing and install new housing ends that will take the bearing (PN 7900).

I decided to just run the Halibrand quickchange. I don't want to be 'locked' in on a rear gear ratio.
