Quote about Texas and Maxton
« on: August 12, 2010, 04:19:50 PM »
I found this on the Texas Mile Website !!!

"...the runway of the Goliad Industrial Air Park is sufficiently remote to compete with the desolation of the famed dry lakes and the partially concrete, 8,000-foot-long, 200-foot-wide surface is superior to that of the somewhat crumbled asphalt of Maxton. The Texas Mile should become a top venue in land speed racing."

I wonder who wrote it ?  and when ?  Just a bit curious !!

Judging by the cocksure tone, I'd say a Texan! :-D

Not me, even I don't need 200' to weave back and forth between the start line and the timing lights. Some folks can only rise by pulling others down. Every venue is a blessing to LSR. Are we now competing with tracks instead of speed? Is the operative word in the posting "should"?

Hello Charles. I read that on the Texas Mile site also.  This is posted just above that quote you posted. Looks like it came from a 2004 Hot Rod magazine story about Goliad.

All I can say about the Texas deal is I've seen some of the youtube vids from there. 200+ mph runs without pulling the chute and locking up the brakes - for multiple runs - without getting thrown out - wouldn't happen at Maxton or anywhere else that values life.

Looks like it was an old quote from years ago.

No big deal, I was just curious..

We all in LSR should support each other and each and every event. WE should never down talk other venues.

We need all the tracks we have,,, even more too !!!  lets all have fun all over this great USA.

I haven't been to Texas, but I have heard from other's that the runway is in much better shape than that of Maxton. It sure looks that way in the pictures.

I am not excited about the shorter shutdown area, but if it is straight and smooth that is a plus in my book. Additional track width is also welcome. None of that affects the fact that I enjoy racing at Maxton.  :-)

I didn't really think that paragraph was putting anyone down, just pointing out some potential strong points of the Texas runway. There may be reasons to debate the venues, but that text isn't one of them, imo.

I enjoy both tracks!  Maxton is a bit more "fun" because it's the only place in this sport where you can take a curve @ 250+..

I like every track and have a desire to race at and support each track as time and cash permits.

However, from time to time I may praise some or all of the tracks (or my favorites or my home track) but not at the detriment of any of the others.

This is an awesome sport and forum, the people make it that way.  Good luck, go fast and be safe to everyone at Bonneville.

If you like wide, smooth surface with a long shutdown try Loring.

Been there done that....will return again....it was for sure worth the 46 hour round trip drive.

Next year hope to have  a crew to help so we can get in a few more runs and tune the lil "E" motor for 200mph..
