There are many records listed under the "retired" section.

Does this mean that they are now closed to competition? Anyone interested in competing in these class, can't set a new record?

Just trying to clear up the fog in my brain, if that's possible   grin

They were vehicles that ran up in body style when it was allowed. In the early days of ECTA, for example, it was ok to run a roadster in the streamliner class. This was a way to make extra money for a class change. You can still run up in engine size but not body style.

It would probably help if your signature indicated you were president of the ECTA so that the unwashed and unknowing can tell there is some bite to what you say.

Joe.... actually I was going to build a new vehicle to race at Maxton for one of the "retired classes".

Would hate to spend the money, only to find out class was no longer being run....  :>(

Just to clarify, I would think that the particular record is retired because of how it was achieved, rather than the class itself being retired. Is this the correct interpretation?

What happened (in regards to these "non-existent classes) was that they unkowingly (by the entrants and the organization both) got by an early version of the ECTA database for a couple years or so, and were later retired when found to be incorrect  or non-existent records. They were rightfully kept as retired records along with the others as the entrants did pay their money, make their passes and surpass the required speeds. It was the right move by the organization and agreed fair by the effected members.
The best thing to do to find class availability is to go to the 2010 ECTA rule book, page 76, Section 7, Article D, paying close attention to 7.D.4
A wise racer will pay the most attention to the last sentence in that article."

As always, feel free to call Todd at the phone number in the ruleboook or email address on the ECTA website (as the rulebook email address is incorrect) for further verification, or help in answering any of your questions related to ECTA or LTA motorcycle entries.
