200mph ZX9R valve stem question
« on: July 24, 2010, 12:11:57 PM »
hey guys.. have a friend of mine coming to America with a nasty turbo 9R to run loring and he wasn't sure if his valvestem meets the spec.. honestly, neither do i.. tried getting a hold of todd dross, but to no avail as he's a busy man.

heres what he sent me.. any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm ask a question on the valve stems ? My goal is 200 MPH. I have aluminium caps with stock valve and the rule is :

7.B.9 Valve Stems and Caps:
All tire valve stems must be fitted with metal valve caps. Over 175 MPH, tubeless tires must use metal valve stems. Tube type tires with rubber valve stems that are angled relative to the rotational plane of the wheel must have those valve stems secured to resist centrifugal force deflection. Safety wire or other approved restraining device is required.

My stock rubber valves with aluminium caps are good or not ???

I think the rule is pretty clear on the valve cap. No alum.

dan i will argue the point with you---the rule doesnt say steel it says metal  aluminum is metal ---the important thing to this rule is the rubber seal inside the cap --if centrifugal force forces the valve stem needle down with a rubber sealed cap the air wont escape from the tire    willie buchta

im thinking the arsenic flagged rod  ---i have a box of valve stem caps all metal that i have collected over the years maybe 3 or 4 hundred  all of them have the rubber seal inside ---if i run a magnet through them not one cap will stick-----looks like to me if you want steel ones you will probably have to make them yourself---i will bring the box to bonneville -----------------willie buchta

it is unobtainable so i didnt put it on the list   :-D :-D :-D :-D

the atomic number is somewhere between 113 and 199

If you send Todd an email he'll be happy to respond. ectatech@twinjugsracing.com.

He's been on the dyno all day but does his best to check email in the evening & field calls at the shop as much as possible (when he hears the phone ring - it's kind of loud when the dyno is running but we do have an answering machine.).

In regards to the question above, if he intends to run over 175mph then yes he needs metal valve stems. I'm not sure I'm clear on what valve stems he currently has. I'm not clear if they are rubber or aluminum. If they are aluminum with the metal o-ringed cap then he's good.

If it's rubber it needs changed. A tire change is an annoyance at this point but shouldn't be a show stopper. If he can't source the metal valve stems speak up now. Not sure if we have any but someone might & there's always a next day air option on ordering.

Hope this helps.
Debbie

hey debbie!! wish i could make it up there with ya.. this year sucks for me so far.. lol hoping ali is running and does well..

you answered my question then for this guy and i appreciate it. told him chances are todd will be the one teching the bikes anyway.

i can't remember what country this guy is in, but it'd be a shame for him to miss out for a small part! i told him about loring last year and i am pretty sure he's planned this trip and run since i told him.

miss ya guys. hoping the turbo motor and bike in total will be done and operative THIS time next year so i can come play.

 best of luck, deb!

 thanks again, willie.
