"PER THE RULE BOOK"
« on: July 21, 2010, 04:35:14 PM »
I have made an observation lately on a few threads that someone will post a reply saying things like "per the rules", "the rule book says","the rules state", etc.. and not referring to which book (SCTA, ECTA) or refer to a page # or section #. When I try to find what they are referring to, the book (SCTA book) doesn't say anything that the poster is talking about. I would appreciate a little more clarification in the future when "quoting rules". End of rant.

A fair request, that makes sense.

Its been known for a long time that it doesn't matter what the rulebook says.  It only matters what the tech inspector thinks the rulebook says.

An excellent, and true observation.  Let's just hope the inspector is working from the same (year) rule book the racer is.

If you don't agree what is being said by the inspector looking at your ride ask where it says that in the "rulebook". If you feel it is HIS interpretation and you have never been dinged on it before ask for the chief inspector for a clarifiacation. It has always been their job and was always stated at inspectors meetings I have attended. They want to be the mediator and help get the vehicle thru the inspection process. I personally been questioned and after the chiefs interpretation I would change MY way. Good Luck...

Just one more point, the inspectors are looking for compliance with safety rules more than class legality.  You may pass tech, but those sharp old birds in impound use magnifying glasses and are pretty much the Gods of the salt..................................... Bob :-P

Well said, Mr Drury!

And it isn't just the impound crew ya need to fear. Like STREET ROADSTER classes, for instance.

I try to look at the post title at the top where it states in what thread group the question is being asked, i.e. SCTA Rules, ECTA Rules, etc.

I sometimes miss.

No offense taken JD. I was trying to point out that I try to look at the thread where the post question was asked.
