Speed Queen II with 92 c.i. twin
« on: February 22, 2024, 12:46:35 AM »
The crank is on its way back to Moldex, to be repaired enough to use cylinders 1&4 as a twin. The hemi head is at the welding shop awaiting TIG closure of gaping holes in the water jacket. I wasted some time messing with the non-working thermostat, before realizing it really isn't needed- I can simply leave the electric pump off during warmup. I wanted to relocate the temperature gauge sensor, but it was mechanical and the tube was too short. So I bought a new electric temp gauge- much more flexibility of sensor location.

I got to thinking about Bob's comment about deciding your firing order and you could certainly make it a "twingle" but you would probably have to mount it in your lakester with "jello" motor mounts! It will probably be a real shaker no matter what firing order you decide on.

Turn slow and use a BIG flywheel.

I'm a big proponent circulating coolant during warm up to prevent excessive heat buildup at the exhaust valve seat. Stationary coolant can spot boil in place if left long enough, that's also why I run a thermostat with a bypass circuit.

But Mickey Thompson beat me to it about 65 years ago, with his blown two-cylinder Pontiac. It made 257 HP on 25% nitro at only 5,200 RPM- was shaking the dyno too much for more revs. But it did set a B'Ville record.
