Race Fuel/ Water injection in BVGC Class
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:57:08 PM »
Some of these rules are clear as mud to me! :?

1) The rules say" 15.0 is the current SCTA acceptable dialectric ceiling." Because that meas nothing to me, I searched out Sunoco Race Fuels, to find out the dielectric constant of different octanes. Here is what I found:

Standard Leaded 110-SG .728, DC -0.1

Supreme Leaded 112-SG .715, DC -0.7

Maximal 116-SG .708, -.09

Does this mean they are all legal in the BVGC class?

2) Rules also say"Water injection is legal." Since EFI is illegal, would I be legal using a mechanicl injection to add water to offset detonation?

Thanks in advance!
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

ERC is the fuel supplier for Bonneville. Here is a link to there fuel comparison chart http://www.ercracingfuels.com/sxs1.htm  If your are building  the engine with a specific fuel in mind, you might want to call and talk to them to see if it will be available at Bonneville.  They don't bring all the fuels, but you could make arrangements for them to bring what you need. Since you read about the diaelectric constant I am sure you read this section of the rulebook:

1.G   RECORD RUNS:
2nd paragraph, page 10
If an SCTA-BNI sanctioned event has a designated gasoline/ diesel fuel sponsor, that sponsor’s product SHALL be used for all class record attempts. All tanks will be sealed by an SCTA-BNI official or designee for all qualifying and record runs. Vehicles competing in fuel classes are exempt from this requirement. A technical station may be used to assure compliance of the gasoline/diesel fuel.

You will be using ERC gasolines, see page 201.

Water injection is legal. You will have to have the tank inspected and sealed the same as a gas tahk. If you need to add water it will have to be done in the presence of an official from a sealed water container.

NEVER remove a tank seal before arriving or leaving the impound area.

Thanks guys.

I did see ERC as the fuel supplier, but they do not list the DC's, so I sent them an email. I used Sunoco only as an example. I was under the impression I would have to run a pump type(91 octane) fuel, until I read that, and wanted to be sure race gas was legal.

As for the water injection, can I use a MSD box for the injection?

Just KIDDING! :-D

You will be using gasoline. There is no problem with the ERC products, do not concern yourself with the diaelectric constant. Rick will bring several different blends that fit most engine configurations. Give him a call and tell him your setup. He will tell you the best blend to use. If he doesn't have it on the truck you can request that he stock some for the trip.
