I wanted to report Howard's passing sooner but, as with a lot of our elder racers Howard was MIA. Larry Volk was able to confirm Howard's passing on July 6th, causes unknown to me.
Howard became a member of the Bonneville 200 MPH club in 1969 at 270 MPH, later updated with a faster 273 MPH. He was a founder of the El Mirage 200 MPH club and was one of the very few that had achieved that speed in 1973, the year the club was started.
Howard had many partners through the years. He was an innovator in the lakester classes often at odds with the tech people. He lost an arm in an accident at Bonneville but that did not stop him from continuing to compete.
Both the El Mirage and Bonneville 200 MPH clubs will mourn Howard's passing and send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
