Forum Latest Topics
« on: July 11, 2010, 09:19:48 AM »
Would it be possible to have a mouse over (I think its called) for the topic list in the Forum Latest Topics on the home page.
Just in case I am using the wrong lingo... When you move your courser over a topic line, a little window pops up that has the complete topic line/heading written in it.  They do it on another site and I find it very helpful/nice

Thanks,
Bill

So, Bill -- how much would this "complete topic line/heading" show -- the entire post(s)?  The basic name of the thread (i.e. Bonneville Chat, L S R Items for sale, etc)?  Or the specific name of the topic -- i.e. Bonneville Bugeye or Stupid Joke Friday?

If the latter -- we've already got it although cut down to the first twenty or thirty characters or whatever it measures.  And, as Bob cautions -- the software for the Forum isn't the software for the rest of the site, so he might have to do some digging to make it work -- if it's at all possible.  Howsabout you let me know the other site(s) where it works the way you suggest so we can see for ourselves?

Thanks from Skandia, Michigan, where it's cloudy and likely to rain this afternoon.

Hi Jon,
It would show just the complete topic subject line.
suzukihayabusa.org Main forum page, board name on the left, last topics on the right. put cusor over last topic line and you will see.
If its easy, cool.  If not, no big deal

Looks like its going to rain here today also.

Hmmmmm.......  I'll see if it's easy to do.  Looks like the same Forum system.

Thunder and lightning now -- still awaiting rain.  Hope it does -- I spent another hour or two working in the garden, and a bit of rain will be dandy.

Slim, I second that idea...On occasion the thread titles are a little vague and it`s nice to "pre-view" the topic. JB

Not what I was saying, just the title would be expanded(if it was shorten/cut off)

I like it unfortunately it would reduce the overall number of "hits" the website would show..you could have a post that rather than being clicked on and read and possibly responded to may be lightly looked over and the passed up..I do like and support Bills idea however.

Here's what Bob said.  By the way, our Forum is from SMF and the website itself uses Joomla.

"That's a Joomla add-on "module", and I found one that was supposed to link SMF with Joomla, but the trail petered out (I went to the company, but their link to the extension was dead).  There's no clue in the existing module as to where it came from, and no switches to turn on those popups.

The popups they're talking about are in SMF, ours (well, the ones we don't have) are in Joomla.... apples and oranges.

I propose bumping up the characters allowed, (and take up more space), and I'll poke around some more."

So -- no, we can't do it without help from others -- that we can't yet find, and maybe we'll try something to show a few more of the characters in the list on the home page.  That's all for now. . .and thanks for asking.

It's an html tooltip.

When you post a reply there's one on every subject button and smiley. :-D (Says grin)
